모든 사람을 선의로 생각하라

만일 각 사람이 그에게 다른 사람들의 결점을 말해 주는 자들이

유리한 기회에 그의 결점도 마음대로 널리 알릴 것이라는 것을 기억한다면

험담의 세계는 예방될 것이다. 

우리는 모든 사람을 특별히 좋게 생각하되

우리의 형제들에 대해서 달리 생각하지 않을 수밖에 없게 될 때까지는 그렇게 해야 한다. 

우리는 나쁜 소문을 성급히 신임하지 않아야 한다.

이런 것들은 흔히 질투나 오해의 결과로 생겨나기도 하고

혹은 과장이나 사실의 부분적 표현에서 나올수도 있다.

질투와 의심은 일단 자리 잡도록 놓아 두면 엉컹퀴의 관모처럼 스스로 자신을 멀리까지 퍼뜨린다. 

어떤 형제가 잘못한다면 그 때는 그에게 대한 그대의 진정한 관심을 보여야 할 때이다.

친절하게 그를 찾아가서 그리스도께서 그의 구속을 위하여 지불하신 무한한 대가를 기억하면서

그와 함께 그리고 그를 위하여 기도하라.

이와 같은 방법으로 그대는 한 영혼을 사망에서 구원하고 허다한 죄를 덮어 줄 수 있다.

Think Well of All Men

What a world of gossip would be prevented if every man would remember that those who tell him the faults of others will as freely publish his faults at a favorable opportunity. 

We should endeavor to think well of all men, especially our brethren, until compelled to think otherwise. 

We should not hastily credit evil reports. These are often the result of envy or misunderstanding, or they may proceed from exaggeration or a partial disclosure of facts. Jealousy and suspicion, once allowed a place, will sow themselves broadcast, like thistledown. 

Should a brother go astray, then is the time to show your real interest in him. Go to him kindly, pray with and for him, remembering the infinite price which Christ has paid for his redemption. In this way you may save a soul from death, and hide a multitude of sins.
