온정과 동정으로 대함

선교 사업이란 단순히 설교하는 것으로 그치는 것이 아니다.

건강을 돌보지 않고, 식욕과 정욕을 지배할 수 있는 도덕적 능력을 제대로 배양하지 못하고 있는 자들을 위해개인적인 노력을 기울이는 것이 선교 사업의 중요한 부분에 해당된다.

유리한 생활을 하는 자들보다 이러한 불쌍한 영혼들을 위하여 많은 노력을 하여야 한다.

우리들이 사는 이 세상은 불쌍한 사람들로 가득 차 있다.

자기 자신을 제어하는 자들은 연약하고 실수하는 자들을 위하여 일할 수 있는 자격을 갖추었다.

그런 이들은 부드럽고 참을성 있게 대할 것이다.

자기 자신의 모범으로 무엇이 옳은 것인지를 보여 줄 것이며

실수하는 자들을 좋은 감화 아래 두고자 노력할 것이다....

우리는 사람들과 접촉하는 방법을 깨닫도록 노력하라.

사람들과 접촉할 때 온정과 동정으로 대하는 것보다 더 좋은 방법이 없다.

그대가 만일 병들어 도움이 필요되는 사람을 알거든 그들을 도와주고

그들을 고난에서 구제할 수 있도록 힘쓰라.

그대가 이런 일을 할 때에 주님의 능력이 이런 일을 통하여 그들의 심령에 말씀하실 것이다.

Be Compassionate and Sympathetic

Missionary work does not consist merely of preaching. It includes personal labor for those who have abused their health and have placed themselves where they have not moral power to control their appetites and passions.

These souls are to be labored for as those more favorably situated. Our world is full of suffering ones.

Those who control themselves are fitted to labor for the weak and erring. They will deal with them tenderly and patiently. By their own example, they will show what is right, and then they will seek to place the erring where they will be under good influences. ...

Let us seek to understand how to reach the people. There is no better way to do this than to be compassionate and sympathetic.

If you know of those who are sick and in need of assistance, help them, try to relieve them in their distress. As you do this work, the power of the Lord will speak through it to the soul.
