내부로부터의 개혁

유혹에 빠져 타락한 자들을 위한 사업은

오직 그리스도의 은혜가 그들의 품성을 개조시켜 무

한하신 하나님과 산 연합의 관계에 들어갈 때에만 참다운 성공을 거둘 수 있다.

이것이 바로 모든 절제 사업의 진정한 목적이다.

그리스도의 은혜가 마음에 거하는 원칙이 되기 전에는 사람들이 결코 절제하는 자가 될 수 없다.…

환경은 개혁을 일으킬 수 없다.

그리스도교는 마음에 개혁을 일으킨다.

그리스도께서 내부에서 역사하신 결과가 변화된 지성의 지시하에 외부로 나타날 것이다.

계획을 외부에서 시작하여 내부로 역사하게 하려는 노력은 항상 실패하였으며 언제나 실패할 것이다.

최초의 타락이 가져온 가장 비참한 결과 가운데 하나는 사람이 자제력을 상실한 것이다.

이 자제력을 다시 회복해야만 참된 향상이 가능하다.

Reformation From Within

Our work for the tempted and fallen will achieve real success only as the grace of Christ reshapes the character and the man is brought into living connection with the infinite God. This is the purpose of all true temperance effort.

Men will never be truly temperate until the grace of Christ is an abiding principle in the heart.... Circumstances cannot work reform. 

Christianity proposes a reformation in the heart. What Christ works within, will be worked out under the dictation of a converted intellect. The plan of beginning outside and trying to work inward has always failed, and always will fail.

one of the most deplorable effects of the original apostasy was the loss of man’s power of self-control. only as this power is regained, can there be real progress.
