요한계시록 8장 1절 ~ 5절

1일곱째 인을 떼실 때에 하늘이 반 시간쯤 고요하더니

2내가 보매 하나님 앞에 일곱 천사가 서 있어 일곱 나팔을 받았더라

3또 다른 천사가 와서 제단 곁에 서서 금 향로를 가지고 많은 향을 받았으니

이는 모든 성도의 기도와 합하여 보좌 앞 금 제단에 드리고자 함이라

4향연이 성도의 기도와 함께 천사의 손으로부터 하나님 앞으로 올라가는지라

5천사가 향로를 가지고 제단의 불을 담아다가 땅에 쏟으매 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 나더라

Enduring Prayers [오래 견디는 기도]

May my prayer be set before you like incense;

may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. - Psalm 141:2

나의 기도가 주의 앞에 분향함과 같이 되며 나의 손 드는 것이 저녁 제사 같이 되게 하소서- 시편 141:2

"Prayers are deathless."

These are the attention-grabbing words of E. M. Bounds (1835~1913),

whose classic writings on prayer have inspired people for generations.

His comments about the power and enduring nature of our prayers

continue with these words:

“The lips that uttered them may be closed to death,

the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat,

but the prayers live before God, and God’s heart is set on them

and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them;

they outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world.”

     

"기도는 죽지 않습니다."

이 괄목할만한 말은 기도에 관한 고전적인 글들을 많이 써서 여러 세대에 걸쳐 독자들에게 영감을 주었던

E.M. 바운즈(1835-1913)의 말입니다.

그는 우리가 드리는 기도의 능력과 오래 견디는 특성에 관한 견해를 이렇게 이어갑니다.

“기도하는 입술은 죽으면 닫힐 수 있고, 기도를 느끼는 심장은 그 박동을 멈출 수 있습니다.

그러나 기도는 하나님 앞에 살아 있고 하나님의 마음에 자리 잡으며,

기도드리는 사람들보다 더 오래 살아남습니다.

기도는 한 세대보다, 한 시대보다, 그리고 한 세상보다 더 오래도록 살아남게 됩니다.”

Have you ever wondered if your prayers

-particularly those birthed out of difficulty, pain, and suffering-ever make it to God?

The insightful words from Bounds remind us of the significance of our prayers

and so does Revelation 8:1~5.

당신의 기도, 특히 어려움, 아픔, 고통에서 비롯된 기도가 하나님께 상달되는지 궁금했던 적이 있습니까?

바운즈의 통찰력 있는 말들은 기도의 의미를 다시 생각하게 해줍니다.

요한계시록 8:1-5의 말씀도 그렇습니다.

The setting is heaven (1), the throne room of God and the control center of the universe. Angelic attendants stand in God’s presence (2)

and one angel, like the priests of old,

offers Him incense along with the prayers of “all God’s people” (V. 3).

How eye-opening and encouraging to have this picture of the prayers offered on earth

rising to God in heaven (V. 4).

When we think that our prayers may have been lost in transit or forgotten,

what we see here comforts us and compels us to persist in our praying,

for our prayers are precious to God!

말씀의 무대는 하나님의 보좌가 있고 우주의 통제본부가 있는 천국(1절)입니다.

하나님 앞에는 수행하는 천사들이 서 있으며(2),

한 천사가 옛날 제사장들처럼 “모든 하나님의 백성들”의 기도와 함께 향연을 올려드리고 있습니다 (3).

땅에서 드리는 기도가 하늘에 계신 하나님께 올라가고 있는 (4) 이 광경이 얼마나 놀랍고 큰 힘이 되는지요.

우리가 드리는 기도가 전달되면서 사라지거나 잊힐 수도 있다고 생각될 때마다,

여기서 본 천국 광경으로 우리는 위로 받고 또 계속 기도하지 않을 수 없습니다.

우리의 기도가 하나님께는 정말 소중하기 때문입니다!
