역사하는 믿음

“믿음이 없이는 기쁘시게 못하나니

하나님께 나아가는 자는 반드시 그가 계신 것과

또한 그가 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상 주시는 이심을 믿어야 할지니라”(히 11:6).

믿음은 지적 확인이 아니고 “바라는 것들의 실상이요 보지 못하는 것들의 증거”(히 11:1)이다.

믿음은 하나님께 모든 것을 맡기고 의지하는 것

곧 하나님께서 우리를 사랑하시고 또 우리에게 가장 유익한 것이 무엇인지를 아심을 믿는 것이다. 

그리하여, 믿음은 우리로 하여금 자기 마음대로 하는 대신에 하나님의 방법을 택하게 된다.

곧, 우리의 부족한 지혜를 대신하여 하나님의 온전한 지혜를 받아들이게 하며,

우리의 연약한 것 대신에 하나님의 능력을, 우리의 죄 대신에 하나님의 의를 받아들이게 한다. 

우리의 생애와 우리 자신은 이미 하나님의 소유이다.

믿음은 우리가 주의 소유임을 시인하며 그분의 소유된 축복을 인정한다.

진리, 의, 순결은 인생의 성공의 비결이다.

믿음은 우리로 하여금 이 세 가지를 소유하게 한다. 

선한 생각과 선한 포부는 모두 하나님의 선물이다.

믿음은 우리로 하여금 진정한 발달과 능률을 내게 할 수 있는 유일한 생명을 하나님께로부터 받게 한다.

The Faith That Works

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6.

Faith is not certainty of knowledge, it is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is trusting in God—believing that He loves us, and knows what is for our best good. 

Thus, instead of our own way, it leads us to choose His way. In place of our ignorance, it accepts His wisdom; in place of our weakness, His strength; in place of our sinfulness, His righteousness. 

Our lives, ourselves, are already His; faith acknowledges His ownership, and accepts its blessing. Truth, uprightness, purity, are pointed out as secrets of life’s success. It is faith that puts us in possession of these. 

Every good impulse or aspiration is the gift of God; faith receives from God the life that alone can produce true growth and efficiency.
