구름에 가려짐 (2019년 3월 23일 토요일)

고린도후서 4장 16절 ~ 18절

16그러므로 우리가 낙심하지 아니하노니 우리의 겉사람은 낡아지나 우리의 속사람은 날로 새로워지도다

17우리가 잠시 받는 환난의 경한 것이 지극히 크고 영원한 영광의 중한 것을 우리에게 이루게 함이니

18우리가 주목하는 것은 보이는 것이 아니요 보이지 않는 것이니

보이는 것은 잠깐이요 보이지 않는 것은 영원함이라

Obscured by Clouds [구름에 가려짐]

We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.

- 2Corinthians 4:18 

우리가 주목하는 것은 보이는 것이 아니요 보이지 않는 것이니 - 고린도후서 4:18      

A rare supermoon appeared in November 2016

-the moon in its orbit reached its closest point to the earth in over sixty years

and so appeared bigger and brighter than at other times.

But for me that day the skies were shrouded in gray.

Although I saw photos of this wonder from friends in other places,

as I gazed upward I had to trust that the supermoon was lurking behind the clouds.
 

2016년 11월에 보기 드문 초대형 달이 떴습니다.

궤도를 돌던 달이 60년 만에 지구에 가장 가까운 지점에 도달하면서

그 어느 때보다 더 크고 더 밝게 뜬 것입니다.

하지만 그날 내가 있는 지역의 하늘은 온통 회색으로 가려져 있었습니다.

나는 이 멋진 광경을 다른 곳에 사는 친구들이 보내준 사진들을 통해 보았지만,

하늘을 올려다보며 구름 뒤에 초대형 달이 숨어 있다고 믿을 수밖에 없었습니다.

The apostle Paul faced many hardships

but believed that what is unseen will last forever.

He said how his “momentary troubles” achieve “an eternal glory” (2 CORINTHIANS 4:17). Thus he could fix his eyes “not on what is seen, but on what is unseen,”

because what is unseen is eternal (V . 18).

Paul yearned that the Corinthians and our faith would grow,

and although we suffer, that we too would trust in God.

We might not be able to see Him, but we can believe He is renewing us day by day (16).

바울 사도는 많은 환난을 직면한 가운데, 보이지는 않지만 영원히 지속되는 것이 있음을 믿었습니다.

그는 “잠시 받는 환난”이 어떻게 “영원한 영광”을 이루어내는지 이야기합니다(고후 4:17).

보이지 않는 것은 영원하기 때문에, 이처럼 그는 “보이는 것이 아닌 보이지 않는 것”에 주목할 수 있었습니다(18절). 바울은 고린도 교회 성도들과 우리의 믿음이 성장하여,

비록 고난을 겪더라도 우리도 하나님을 신뢰할 수 있기를 간절히 바랐습니다.

우리가 하나님을 눈으로 볼 수는 없지만, 하나님께서 우리를 날마다 새롭게 하심을 믿을 수 있습니다(16절).  

I thought about how God is unseen but eternal when I gazed at the clouds that day,

knowing that the supermoon was hidden but there.

And I hoped the next time I was tempted to believe that God was far from me,

I would fix my eyes on what is unseen.

그날 밤 구름을 바라보고 그 구름 뒤에 초대형 달이 숨어 있다는 것을 생각하면서,

보이지 않지만 영원히 계시는 하나님을 묵상해보았습니다.

그리고 언젠가 하나님이 나에게서 멀어졌다는 생각이 밀려올 때,

보이지 않는 것에 주목할 수 있기를 소망합니다.

Lord God, sometimes I feel like You’re far from me.

Help me to believe the truth that You are ever near, whether I feel Your presence or not.

주 하나님, 때때로 주님이 저에게서 멀리 떨어져 있다고 느낍니다.

주님의 임재를 느끼지 못하더라도, 주님은 언제나 가까이 계신다는 진리를 믿을 수 있도록 도와주소서.
