그리스도를 따르는 자들은 새로운 동기를 발견함

생애 가운데 하나님의 품성을 계발시키는 것과 필적할 만한 학문은 없다. 

그리스도의 추종자가 되는 사람들은 새로운 행동의 동기가 주어진다는 것과,

새로운 생각이 일어나고, 그리하여 새로운 행동이 그 결과로 나타나지 않을 수 없다는 것을 발견한다.

그러나 그들은 오직 투쟁을 통해서만 발전할 수 있다.

왜냐하면 영혼으로 하여금 의심하고 죄를 짓도록 만드는 유혹들을 제시하며

그들을 대항하여 언제나 싸우고 있는 원수가 있기 때문이다.

유전적이며 길러진 악의 경향들은 반드시 정복되어야 한다.

식욕과 정욕은 성령의 지배 아래 들어가야 한다.

현세에서는 싸움이 끝날 날이 없을 것이다.

그러나 싸워야 할 끊임없는 싸움이 있는 한편으로 쟁취해야 할 고귀한 승리가 있다.

그리고 자기 자신과 죄에 대한 승리는 인간이 평가할 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 더 가치가 있다.

There is no end to the warfare this side of eternity.
But while there are constant battles to fight, there are also precious victories to gain;

and the triumph over self and sin is of more value than the mind can estimate.

Followers of Christ Find New Motives

No other science is equal to that which develops in the life of the student the character of God.

Those who become followers of Christ find that new motives of action are supplied, new thoughts arise, and new actions must result.

But they can make advancement only through conflict; for there is an enemy who ever contends against them, presenting temptations to cause the soul to doubt and sin.

There are hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil that must be overcome. Appetite and passion must be brought under the control of the Holy Spirit.

There is no end to the warfare this side of eternity.
But while there are constant battles to fight, there are also precious victories to gain; and the triumph over self and sin is of more value than the mind can estimate.
