믿음은 회개와 품성의 변화와 분리될 수 없다

그대들은 “내가 무엇을 하여야 구원을 얻을 수 있을까요”라고 묻는가?

그대들은 연구를 시작하기 전에 그대들의 선입주견과 선천적이고 후천적인 사상을 다 버려야 한다. 

만일 그대들이 그대들 자신의 의견을 세우기 위하여 성경을 상고한다면 결코 진리를 찾지 못할 것이다. 

여호와께서 하신 말씀을 배우려는 목적으로 성경을 상고하라.

성경을 연구하는 중에 그대의 마음에 찔림을 받거나

그대의 지론(持論)과 부합되지 않는 점을 발견하게 될지라도

그 진리를 그대의 의견에 부합되도록 잘못 해석하지 말고 진리의 빛 그대로 받아들이라. 

마음의 문을 열라.

그리하면 그대들은 하나님의 말씀의 기이한 것을 볼 수 있을 것이다.

그리스도를 세상의 구주로 믿는 데는

우선 하늘의 보화를 분별하고 그 가치를 깨닫는 마음이 있어야 하고

그 다음에 이러한 마음이 그의 지력을 지배해서 그 사실을 인정하도록 되어야 한다. 

이러한 믿음은 회개와 품성의 변화와 분리될 수 없다.

믿는다는 것은

복음의 보화를 찾아 그것을 받아들일 뿐 아니라

그 복음이 지워 주는 일체의 의무까지도 받아들인다는 의미이다.

Faith is Inseparable from Repentance and Transformation of Character

Do you ask, What shall I do to be saved? You must lay your preconceived opinions, your hereditary and cultivated ideas, at the door of investigation. 

If you search the Scriptures to vindicate your own opinions, you will never reach the truth. 

Search in order to learn what the Lord says. If conviction comes as you search, if you see that your cherished opinions are not in harmony with the truth, do not misinterpret the truth in order to suit your own belief, but accept the light given. 

Open mind and heart that you may behold wondrous things out of God’s word.

Faith in Christ as the world’s Redeemer calls for an acknowledgment of the enlightened intellect controlled by a heart that can discern and appreciate the heavenly treasure. 

This faith is inseparable from repentance and transformation of character. To have faith means to find and accept the gospel treasure, with all the obligations which it imposes.
