예모의 은혜

예모의 은혜

그리스도를 위해 일하는 자들은 순결하고, 정직하고, 신뢰할 만하며,

또한 부드러운 마음을 가지고, 동정심이 많으며, 예모가 있어야 한다. 

진정으로 예모가 바른 자들과의 교제에는 매력이 있다. 

친절한 말, 유쾌한 모습, 예절 바른 품행들은 그 가치를 헤아릴 수 없다. 

예의 없는 그리스도인들은 다른 이들을 소홀히 함을 통하여 그들이 그리스도와 연합되지 않았음을 보여준다. 그리스도와 연합되었으면서도 예모가 없다는 일은 불가능하다.

그리스도의 임재는 가정에 보다 순결한 분위기를 가져왔으며

그분의 생애는 사회의 구성 인자들 가운데 역사하는 누룩과 같았다. 

그분은 지각이 없고, 거칠고, 예모 없는 자들과 불공정한 세리, 불의한 사마리아인들, 이방인 군인들,

거친 농부들, 그리고 잡다한 군중들 가운데를 걸으셨다. 

그분은 인간이 피곤함과 무거운 짐을 지도록 강요받고 있음을 보실 때에 여기저기에서 동정의 말씀을 하셨다. 그분은 그들의 짐을 나누어 지셨으며,

그들에게 하나님의 사랑과 친절과 선하심의 속성으로부터 배우신 교훈을 반복하셨다.

그분은 가장 거칠고 가망이 없는 자들 앞에 그들을 하나님의 자녀로 내보일 그러한 품성을 획득함으로써

그들이 비난할 것이 없고 해가 없는 자가 될 수 있다는 확신을 놓아서

그들을 희망으로 고취시키시고자 하셨다.

The Grace of Courtesy

Those who work for Christ are to be pure, upright, and trustworthy, and they are also to be tenderhearted, compassionate, and courteous. There is a charm in the intercourse of those who are truly courteous. 
Kind words, pleasant looks, a courteous demeanor, are of inestimable value. 

Uncourteous Christians, by their neglect of others, show that they are not in union with Christ. It is impossible to be in union with Christ and yet be uncourteous.

Christ presence brought a purer atmosphere into the home, and his life was as leaven working amid the elements of society. 

Harmless and undefiled, he walked among the thoughtless, the rude, the uncourteous; amid the unjust publicans, the unrighteous Samaritans, the heathen soldiers, the rough peasants, and the mixed multitude. 

He spoke a word of sympathy here, and a word there, as he saw men weary, and compelled to bear heavy burdens. 
He shared their burdens, and repeated to them the lessons he had learned from nature of the love, the kindness, the goodness of God.

He sought to inspire with hope the most rough and unpromising, setting before them the assurance that they might become blameless and harmless, attaining such a character as would make them manifest as children of God.
