마음 밭은 잘 갈려져야 한다

흙은 죄에 대한 깊은 회개를 통해 잘게 부서져야 한다.

유해한 사단의 잡초는 뽑아 버려야 한다.

가시떨기에 덮였던 밭은 부지런한 노력에 의해서만 회복될 수 있다. 

이와 같이 선천적으로 악한 성질도 예수의 이름과 힘을 의지하며 열심히 노력함으로써 극복할 수 있다.

주님께서는 당신의 선지자를 통하여

“너희 묵은 땅을 갈고 가시덤불 속에 파종하지 말라”(렘 4:3)

“너희가 자기를 위하여 의를 심고 긍휼을 거두라”(호 10:12)고 말씀하셨다.

주님께서는 우리를 위하여 이 일을 이루고 싶어 하시며, 우리에게 그와 협력하기를 요청하신다. 

씨를 뿌리는 자들은

그가 전하는 복음을 잘 받아들일 수 있도록 사람들의 마음을 준비시키기 위해 해야 할 일이 있다.

말씀을 전하는 일에 있어서 설교를 너무 많이 하고 진정으로 마음과 마음을 통하는 일은 너무 적게 하고 있다. 

잃어버린 영혼들을 위하여 개인적으로 일할 필요가 있다.

우리들은 그리스도와 같은 동정심을 가지고 사람들을 개인적으로 가까이 접촉해서

영생에 관한 중대한 문제에 그들의 관심을 일깨워 주도록 힘써야 한다. 

그들의 마음이 밟혀 굳어진 한 길처럼 단단하여

겉보기에는 그들에게 구주를 소개하는 일이 전혀 허사처럼 보일지 모른다. 

그러나 이론으로 마음을 움직일 수 없고 변론으로 설복시킬 수 없는 것처럼 보일 때에도

개인적 봉사를 통해 나타나는 그리스도의 사랑이 돌 같은 그들의 마음을 부드럽게 만들어

진리의 씨가 뿌리를 내리게 할 수 있다.

The Garden of the Heart Must be Cultivated

The soil must be broken up by deep repentance for sin. Poisonous, Satanic plants must be uprooted. The soil once overgrown by thorns can be reclaimed only by diligent labor. 

So the evil tendencies of the natural heart can be overcome only by earnest effort in the name and strength of Jesus. 

The Lord bids us by His prophet, “Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.” “Sow to yourselves in righteousness; reap in mercy.” Jeremiah 4:3; Hosea 10:12. 

This work He desires to accomplish for us, and He asks us to co-operate with Him.

The sowers of the seed have a work to do in preparing hearts to receive the gospel. In the ministry of the word there is too much sermonizing, and too little of real heart-to-heart work. 

There is need of personal labor for the souls of the lost. In Christlike sympathy we should come close to men individually, and seek to awaken their interest in the great things of eternal life. 

Their hearts may be as hard as the beaten highway, and apparently it may be a useless effort to present the Saviour to them; 

but while logic may fail to move, and argument be powerless to convince, the love of Christ, revealed in personal ministry, may soften the stony heart, so that the seed of truth can take root.
