생애를 가장 크게 이용함

사람이 환경을 만들 수 있다.

그러나 환경이 사람을 만들게 해서는 안 된다.

우리는 환경을 일하는 도구로 이용해야 한다.

우리가 환경을 지배해야지 환경이 우리를 지배하도록 허용해서는 안 된다.

유능한 사람들은 반대를 당하고, 난처한 일을 만나고 방해를 받아온 사람들이다.

그들의 정력들을 일깨워서 활동시킴으로 말미암아

그들이 만나는 장애들은 그들에게는 오히려 훌륭한 축복임이 입증된다.

그들은 자신감을 얻는다.

투쟁과 난관은 하나님을 의지하는 믿음과 능력을 계발시켜 주는 확고한 신뢰심을 발휘하게 해준다.

교육은 그것에 교육을 받은 자의 헌신이 결합될 때에 크게 유익하다.

그러나 높은 학문적 지식을 얻을 특권을 가지지 못한 자라 할지라도

지적 생활과 영적 생활에 진보할 수 없으리라고 생각할 필요는 없다.

그들이 자기가 가진 바 지식을 가장 잘 이용하고 날마다 무엇인가를 마음에 쌓아두며

또한, 그리스도의 성격과 같은 품성을 배양하고 나쁜 성미를 이기려고 노력한다면

하나님께서 지식의 통로를 그들에게 열어주실 것이다.

그리하여 옛날 히브리 어린이들에게 하나님께서 지혜와 지식을 주셨던 것과 같이 그들에게도 주실 것이다.

Making the Most of Life

Man can shape circumstances, but circumstances should not be allowed to shape the man. We should seize upon circumstances as instruments by which to work. We are to master them, but should not permit them to master us.

Men of power are those who have been opposed, baffled, and thwarted. By calling their energies into action, the obstacles they meet prove to them positive blessings. They gain self-reliance.

Conflict and perplexity call for the exercise of trust in God, and for that firmness which develops power.

While a good education is a great benefit if combined with consecration in its possessor, still those who do not have the privilege of gaining high literary attainments need not think they cannot advance in intellectual and spiritual life.

If they will make the most of the knowledge they have, if they will seek to gather something to their store every day, and will overcome all perverseness of temper through the studious cultivation of Christlike traits of character, God will open channels of wisdom to them, and it may be said of them as it was said of old concerning the Hebrew children, God gave them wisdom and understanding.
