하나님을 의지함

 “나는 포도나무요 너희는 가지니 저가 내 안에 내가 저 안에 있으면 이 사람은 열매를 맞이 맺나니

나를 떠나서는 너희가 아무것도 할 수 없음이라” (요 15:5)

의는 경건에 그 뿌리를 두고 있다. 

어떤 사람도 하나님을 믿는 믿음을 가지고 그분과 생명적인 연결을 이루고 있지 않는 한 의로울 수가 없다. 

들에 핀 꽃이 그 뿌리를 흙 속에 박고 있는 것처럼,

그것이 공기와 이슬과 소나기와 햇빛을 받아야 하는 것처럼,

우리는 하나님께로부터 영혼의 생명에 도움이 되는 것을 받아야 한다. 

우리가 그분의 계명을 순종할 능력을 받는 것은 오직 그분의 본성에 참여하는 자가 됨으로써이다. 

어떤 사람도, 높거나 낮거나, 경험이 있거나 없거나 간에,

그의 생명이 그리스도와 함께 하나님 안에 숨겨지지 않는 한

그의 동료 인간들 앞에서 순결하고 힘 있는 삶을 꾸준히 지속할 수 없다. 

사람들 사이에서의 활동이 크면 클 수록 하나님과의 마음의 교통은 더욱 밀접해져야 한다.

만일 우리가 진실한 그리스도인 생애를 살고자 한다면,

하나님의 말씀에 끊임없이 접촉함으로 양심이 되살아나야 한다. 

하나님이 무한한 값으로 우리에게 제공해 주신 귀중한 모든 것들을 우리가 전유 (專有) 하지 않으면

그것들이 우리에게 아무런 유익이 되지 못할 것이며, 우리를 강하게 하고 영적 성장을 이루게 할 수도 없다.

우리는 하나님의 말씀을 먹고 그것을 우리 자신의 한 부분으로 삼아야 한다.

의의 태양의 밝은 광선을 받아들인 모든 마음은 음성과 마음과 품성에 하나님의 영의 역사를 드러낼 것이다. . . 

친절과 온유와 사랑과 격려의 말을 통하여 거룩한 감화가 다른 사람들에게 나누어질 것이다.

Dependence on God

"I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing."

(John 15:5)

Righteousness has its root in godliness. 

No human being is righteous any longer than he has faith in God and maintains a vital connection with Him. 

As a flower of the field has its root in the soil; as it must receive air, dew, showers, and sunshine, so must we receive from God that which ministers to the life of the soul. 

It is only through becoming partakers of His nature that we receive power to obey His commandments. 

No man, high or low, experienced or inexperienced, can steadily maintain before his fellowmen a pure, forceful life unless his life is hid with Christ in God. 

The greater the activity among men, the closer should be the communion of the heart with God. 

If we would live a true Christian life, the conscience must be quickened by constant contact with the word of God. 

All the precious things which at infinite cost God has provided for us will do us no good; they cannot strengthen us and produce spiritual growth unless we appropriate them. We must eat the word of God—make it a part of ourselves.

Every heart that has been visited by the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness will reveal the working of the Spirit of God in voice, mind, and character. . .

The holy influences will be imparted to others in words of kindness, tenderness, love, and encouragement.
