성령의 임재가 함께 하면 세상이 줄 수 없는 능력이 주어질 것이다

복음사업을 그처럼 무력하게 만드는 것은 성령의 부재 (不在) 이다.
학식과 재간과 능변과 선천적 혹은 후천적인 온갖 재능을 소유하고 있을지라도

하나님의 영의 임재가 없으면 마음을 전혀 감동시킬 수 없고,

결코 죄인을 그리스도께로 인도하지 못할 것이다.

그 반면에 만일 그들이 그리스도와 연결된다면,

가장 보잘것없고 무식한 그분의 제자라도 사람의 마음에 호소하는 능력을 가지게 될 것이다.

하나님께서는 그들을 우주에서 가장 고상한 감화가 흘러 나가게 하는 통로로 삼으신다. 

이것이 우리가 능력을 받을 수 있는 수단임에도 불구하고

왜 우리는 성령의 선물에 주리고 목말라 하지 않는가?

왜 우리는 그것에 대하여 말하고, 그것을 위해 기도하고, 그것에 관해 설교하지 않는가?

주께서는 부모가 자식에게 좋은 선물을 주는 것 이상으로 우리에게 성령을 주고자 하신다.

성령의 침례를 위하여 모든 교역자는 하나님께 탄원해야 한다.

특별한 도움과 하늘의 지혜를 얻기 위해 함께 기도하는 모임을 만들어야 한다.
그리할 때 그들은 지혜롭게 계획하고 그것을 실행하는 법을 알게 될 것이다.

특별히 사람들은 하나님께서 그분의 선교사들을 성령으로 침례를 주시도록 기도해야 한다.

하나님의 교역자들에게 성령의 임재가 함께 하면

진리의 제시에 세상의 명성과 영광이 줄 수 없는 능력이 주어질 것이다.

성령께서는 모든 비상 사태에서, 친척들의 박정함과 세상의 증오 속에서,

또한 그들 스스로의 불완전과 실수를 깨닫는 중에 투쟁하고 씨름하는 영혼들을 지탱해 주는 힘을 주신다.

The Presence of the Spirit Will Give a Power that Not All of the World Could Give

It is the absence of the Spirit that makes the gospel ministry so powerless.
Learning, talent, eloquence, every natural or acquired endowment, may be possessed; but, without the presence of the Spirit of God, no heart will be touched, no sinner won to Christ.

On the other hand, if they are connected with Christ, if the gifts of the Spirit are theirs, the poorest and most ignorant of His disciples will have a power that will tell upon hearts. God makes them channels for the outflowing of the highest influence in the universe.

Why do we not hunger and thirst for the gift of the Spirit, since this is the means by which we are to receive power? Why do we not talk of it, pray for it, preach concerning it?

The Lord is more willing to give the Holy Spirit to us than parents are to give good gifts to their children. For the baptism of the Spirit every worker should be pleading with God.

Companies should be gathered together to ask for special help, for heavenly wisdom, that they may know how to plan and execute wisely. Especially should men pray that God will baptize His missionaries with the Holy Spirit.

The presence of the Spirit with God’s workers will give the presentation of the truth a power that not all the honor or glory of the world could give.

The Spirit furnishes the strength that sustains striving, wrestling souls in every emergency, amidst the unfriendliness of relatives, the hatred of the world, and the realization of their own imperfections and mistakes.
