진실되고 정직한 사람들

요셉과 다니엘의 역사는

하나님께 자신을 드리고 전심으로 그분의 목적을 성취하고자 힘쓰는 사람들에 대하여

그분께서 행하시는 일이 무엇인지를 설명하는 실례이다.

인류의 가장 큰 결핍은 인물의 부족이다. 그 인물이란

매매되지 않는 사람, 심령이 진실하고 정직한 사람, 죄를 그대로 죄라고 부르기를 두려워하지 않는 사람,

마치 나침반의 바늘이 틀림없이 남북을 가리키듯이 양심이 그 의무에 충실한 사람,

비록 하늘이 무너질지라도 옳은 일을 위하여 굳게 서는 그런 사람들이다.

그러나, 이런 품성은 우연히 형성되는 것이 아니다...

고상한 품성은 극기와, 저급한 성품을 버리고 고매한 성품을 가지려는 노력의 결과,

곧 하나님과 사람에게 사랑의 봉사를 하기 위해 자아를 내어 맡기는 자기 수련의 결과이다.

청년들은 자기들이 받은 천분이 자신들의 것이 아니라는 사실을 명심해야 한다.

힘, 시간, 그리고 지성은 다만 일시로 빌린 보물일 뿐이다. 
그것들은 다 하나님의 것으로,

모든 청년들은 응당 이것들을 최고의 목적을 위하여 사용하도록 결심하지 않으면 안된다. 

청년들은 각각 하나님께서 열매를 보기 원하시는 가지이면서 자본을 증식시켜야 할 청지기이며,

또 세상의 어두움을 비추는 빛이다.

True and Honest Men

The history of Joseph and Daniel is an illustration of what He will do for those who yield themselves to Him and with the whole heart seek to accomplish His purpose.

The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall. 

But such a character is not the result of accident... 
A noble character is the result of self-discipline, of the subjection of the lower to the higher nature—the surrender of self for the service of love to God and man. 

The youth need to be impressed with the truth that their endowments are not their own. Strength, time, intellect, are but lent treasures. 
They belong to God, and it should be the resolve of every youth to put them to the highest use. 

He is a branch, from which God expects fruit; a steward, whose capital must yield increase; a light, to illuminate the world’s darkness.
