계속적인 성장

계속적인 성장

성화는 한 순간, 한 시간 혹은 하루에 이루어지는 일이 아니다. 

그것은 은혜 안에서 계속적으로 성장하는 것이다.

내일의 투쟁이 얼마나 심할지 오늘 우리는 알지 못한다. 

사탄은 살아 있으며 활동적이다.

우리는 그를 대적하기 위하여 하나님께 매일 열렬하게 도움과 능력을 간구할 필요가 있다.

사탄이 지배하고 있는 동안에는

우리에게 굴복시켜야 할 자아가 있을 것이며 극복해야 할 약점이 있을 것이요,

멈추는 곳이 없을 것이며 우리가 도달하여 완전히 이루었다고 말할 수 있는 지점이 없을 것이다. 

“내가 이미 얻었다 함도 아니요 온전히 이루었다 함도 아니라

오직 내가 그리스도 예수께 잡힌 바 된 그것을 잡으려고 좇아가노라” (빌 3:12). 

영생을 얻기 위하여는 노력이 필요하다. 

승리자가 되는 것은 오직 오랫동안 인내하는 노력, 고된 훈련, 엄격한 투쟁에 의해서 이루어진다.

그러나, 만일 우리가, 우리를 위하여 광야의 유혹을 승리하신 “승리자”의 이름으로

그분이 승리하신 것처럼 인내하며 단호하게 승리한다면, 영생의 상급을 얻게 될 것이다.

우리의 노력과 자아 부정, 그리고 인내는

우리가 추구하는 목표물의 무한한 가치에 상응하는 것이어야만 한다.

A Continual Growth

Sanctification is not the work of a moment, an hour, or a day. It is a continual growth in grace. 

We know not one day how strong will be our conflict the next. 

Satan lives, and is active, and every day we need to cry earnestly to God for help and strength to resist him.

As long as Satan reigns we shall have self to subdue, besetments to overcome, and there is no stopping place, there is no point to which we can come and say we have fully attained.

“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12.

It will cost us an effort to secure eternal life. 

It is only by long and persevering effort, sore discipline, and stern conflict that we shall be overcomers. 

But if we patiently and determinedly, in the name of the Conqueror who overcame in our behalf in the wilderness of temptation, overcome as He overcame, we shall have the eternal reward.

Our efforts, our self-denial, our perseverance, must be proportionate to the infinite value of the object of which we are in pursuit.
