매일 매일의 구원

 

“그런즉 선 줄로 생각하는 자는 넘어질까 조심하라”(고전 10:12) 

베드로의 타락은 순간적이 아니라 점진적이었다. 

자신감이 그로 하여금 구원을 받았다는 확신을 갖게 하였고,

차츰 내리막 길을 걸어 마침내는 구주를 부인하게 하였다. 

우리는 결코 자신을 안전하다고 믿거나 이 세상에서 우리가 유혹에 안전하다고 생각할 수 없다. 

구주를 받아들인 사람들이 아무리 철저히 개심했을지라도

구원받았다고 말하거나 생각하도록 가르쳐서는 결코 안된다. 

모든 사람이 소망과 믿음을 가지도록 가르침을 받아야 하지만,

우리가 자신을 그리스도께 바치고 그리스도께서 우리를 받으셨다는 것을 알 때에라도

우리는 유혹에서 벗어난 것이 아니다.… 

시험을 참는 사람만이 생명의 면류관을 받을 것이다 (약 1:12).

그리스도를 믿는다고 공언하면서도 성숙한 그리스도인이 되지 못하는 많은 사람들이 있다. 

그들은 사람이 타락하였다는 것과 그의 기능이 약화되어 도덕적인 행동을 하기에 부적합하다는 것을 인정한다. 그리고 그리스도께서 모든 짐과 고통과 극기를 지셨으므로 자기들은 그리스도께서 그것들을 지시도록 허락한다고 말한다. 

그들은 믿기만 하면 다 된다고 말한다. 

그러나 그리스도께서는

“아무든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 좇을 것이니라”(마 16:24)고

말씀하셨다.…

Salvation Day by Day

Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12.

Peter’s fall was not instantaneous, but gradual. Self-confidence led him to the belief that he was saved, and step after step was taken in the downward path, until he could deny his Master. 

Never can we safely put confidence in self or feel, this side of heaven, that we are secure against temptation. 

Those who accept the Saviour, however sincere their conversion, should never be taught to say or to feel that they are saved. This is misleading. 

Every one should be taught to cherish hope and faith; but even when we give ourselves to Christ and know that He accepts us, we are not beyond the reach of temptation.... 

Only he who endures the trial will receive the crown of life (James 1:12)

There are many who profess Christ, but who never become mature Christians. 

They admit that man is fallen, that his faculties are weakened, that he is unfitted for moral achievement, but they say that Christ has borne all the burden, all the suffering, all the self-denial, and they are willing to let Him bear it. 

They say that there is nothing for them to do but to believe; but Christ said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24)....
