심령이 가난한 자는 복이 있나니 천국이 저희 것임이요

자기 심령의 처참한 빈곤을 느끼는 사람,

다시 말해 자기 자신에게 선한 것이 전혀 없다는 것을 깨닫는 모든 사람들은

예수님을 바라봄으로 의와 능력을 발견할 수 있다.
그분께서는 “수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라”(마태복음 11장 28절)고 말씀하신다.

그분은 그대의 궁핍을 당신의 은혜의 부요함과 바꾸라고 명령하신다.

우리는 하나님의 사랑을 받을 가치가 없다.

그러나 우리의 보증인이신 그리스도께서는 그 사랑을 받을 자격이 있으신 것은 물론

당신에게로 나오는 모든 사람을 넉넉히 구원할 수도 있으시다.

과거의 경험이 어떠하든지, 그리고 현재의 환경이 아무리 절망적이라 할지라도

연약하고 속절없고 낙담한 현 상태 그대로 예수께 나가면,

우리의 자비하신 구주께서는 멀리서부터 우리를 맞아 당신의 사랑의 팔과 의의 두루마기로 감싸 주신다.

그분께서는 우리에게 당신의 품성을 그대로 나타내는 흰 두루마기를 입혀 아버지께 소개시키신다.

그분은 우리를 위해 하나님 앞에서 이렇게 간구하신다.

내가 대신 저 죄인의 자리에 앉았습니다.

제 고집대로 하는 이 자녀를 보지 마시고 나를 보아 주십시오.

사단이 죄를 들추며 우리의 영혼을 크게 대적하고 우리를 자기의 것으로 주장하는 데 반해,

그리스도의 보혈은 더욱 강력하게 호소한다.

 “어떤 자의 내게 대한 말에 의와 힘은 여호와께만 있나니…

이스라엘 자손은 다 여호와로 의롭다 함을 얻고 자랑하리라”(이사야 45장 24, 25절).

Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

 All who have a sense of their deep soul poverty, who feel that they have nothing good in themselves, may find righteousness and strength by looking unto Jesus.
He says, “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden.” Matthew 11:28.

He bids you exchange your poverty for the riches of His grace. We are not worthy of God’s love, but Christ, our surety, is worthy, and is abundantly able to save all who shall come unto Him.

Whatever may have been your past experience, however discouraging your present circumstances, if you will come to Jesus just as you are, weak, helpless, and despairing, our compassionate Saviour will meet you a great way off, and will throw about you His arms of love and His robe of righteousness.

He presents us to the Father clothed in the white raiment of His own character. He pleads before God in our behalf, saying:

I have taken the sinner’s place. Look not upon this wayward child, but look on Me. Does Satan plead loudly against our souls, accusing of sin, and claiming us as his prey, the blood of Christ pleads with greater power.

 “Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness and strength.... In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.” Isaiah 45:24, 25.
