사별과 고통과 고난의 생애도 그분의 황홀한 임재 앞에서는 환하게 될 수 있다

우리의 슬픔은 아무런 근거 없이 생기는 것이 아니다.

하나님이 “인생으로 고생하며 근심하게 하심이 본심이 아니시”다(예레미야애가 3장 33절). 

그분께서 시련과 환난을 허락하시는 것은

“우리의 유익을 위하여 그의 거룩하심에 참예케 하시” 기 위함이다. (히브리서 12장 10절)

감당하기 심히 어렵고 가혹하게 보이는 시련이라도 일단 믿음으로 받아들이면 축복임이 판명될 것이다.

세상의 쾌락을 앗아가는 혹독한 재난이 오히려 우리의 눈을 하늘로 향하게 하는 수단이 될 것이다. 

슬픔을 당하여 예수님 안에서 위로를 구하는 일이 없었더라면 결코 그분을 알지 못했을 사람들이 많이 있다.

우리 중에는 환난을 당할 때 야곱과 같이 할 자가 얼마나 될까?

우리는 그것을 원수의 손으로 생각하고 어둠 속에서 힘이 다할 때까지 무모하게 싸우지만,

아무런 위로나 구원을 발견하지 못한다. 

새벽에 천사에게 일격을 맞은 야곱은 지금껏 싸우던 자가 언약의 천사임을 알게 되었다.

그리하여 그는 속절없이 울면서

그의 영혼이 갈망하던 축복을 받기 위하여 무한한 사랑을 가지신 분의 품에 안겼다.

우리도 시련이 유익이 됨을 배우며,

주님의 징계를 경시하지 말고, 하나님께 책망 받을 때 낙심하지 않도록 해야 한다. 

 “하나님께 징계받는 자에게는 복이 있나니…

하나님은 아프게 하시다가 싸매시며 상하게 하시다가 그 손으로 고치시나니

여섯 가지 환난에서 너를 구원하시며 일곱 가지 환난이라도 그 재앙이 네게 미치지 않게 하시며.”(욥 5:17~19)

예수께서는 상처를 입은 모든 사람을 찾아 치료해 주신다.

The Life of Bereavement, Pain, and Suffering

may be Brightened by Precious Revealings of His Presence

Our sorrows do not spring out of the ground. God “doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.” Lamentations 3:33. 

When He permits trials and afflictions, it is “for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.” Hebrews 12:10. 

If received in faith, the trial that seems so bitter and hard to bear will prove a blessing. The cruel blow that blights the joys of earth will be the means of turning our eyes to heaven. 

How many there are who would never have known Jesus had not sorrow led them to seek comfort in Him!

when tribulation comes upon us, how many of us are like Jacob! We think it the hand of an enemy; and in the darkness we wrestle blindly until our strength is spent, and we find no comfort or deliverance. 

To Jacob the divine touch at break of day revealed the one with whom he had been contending—the Angel of the covenant; and, weeping and helpless, he fell upon the breast of Infinite Love, to receive the blessing for which his soul longed. We also need to learn that trials mean benefit, and not to despise the chastening of the Lord nor faint when we are rebuked of Him.

“Happy is the man whom God correcteth: ... He maketh sore, and bindeth up: He woundeth, and His hands make whole. He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.” Job 5:17-19. To every stricken one, Jesus comes with the ministry of healing. 

The life of bereavement, pain, and suffering may be brightened by precious revealings of His presence.
