일상생활에서의 신앙

순결하고 진실한 그리스도인의 조용하고, 언행이 일치되는 생애에는 유창한 말보다 더욱 강력한 웅변이 있다. 사람의 인격은 그의 말보다 더욱 많은 감화력을 가지고 있다.

예수님께로 파견되었던 관원들은 그분처럼 말하는 사람은 없었다는 보고를 가지고 돌아왔다.

그러나 이에 대한 설명은 그분처럼 생애한 사람은 없었다는 뜻이다.

만일 그분의 생애가 당신의 말씀과 일치하지 않았다면 그분께서는 그렇게 말씀하실 수 없었을 것이다.

그분의 말씀에는 그들에게 확신을 주는 능력이 있었다.

왜냐하면 그 말씀들은 순결하고 거룩하며, 사랑과 동정심이 충만하고,

자비와 진리가 많은 마음에서 나왔기 때문이었다.

다른 사람들에게 우리의 감화력을 결정해 주는 것은 우리 자신의 품성과 경험이다.

우리가 다른 사람들에게 그리스도의 은혜의 능력을 확신시켜 주려면

우리는 그 능력을 우리 자신의 마음과 생애에서 알아야 한다.

우리가 사람들을 구원하기 위하여 증거하는 복음은 우리 자신의 영혼을 구원해 준 복음이어야 한다.

오직 그리스도를 개인의 구주로 믿는 산 믿음을 통해서만

우리의 감화력을 불신의 세계가 느낄 수 있게 할 수 있다.

우리가 급히 흐르는 물결 속에서 죄인들을 건져내려면,

우리 자신의 발이 만세 반석되신 예수 그리스도께 굳게 고정되어 있어야 한다.

Everyday Religion

There is an eloquence far more powerful than the eloquence of words in the quiet, consistent life of a pure, true Christian. What a man is has more influence than what he says.

 The officers who were sent to Jesus came back with the report that never man spoke as He spoke. But the reason for this was that never man lived as He lived.

Had His life been other than it was, He could not have spoken as He did. His words bore with them a convincing power, because they came from a heart pure and holy, full of love and sympathy, benevolence and truth.

 It is our own character and experience that determine our influence upon others. In order to convince others of the power of Christ’s grace, we must know its power in our own hearts and lives. The gospel we present for the saving of souls must be the gospel by which our own souls are saved.

Only through a living faith in Christ as a personal Savior is it possible to make our influence felt in a skeptical world, If we would draw sinners out of the swift-running current, our own feet must be firmly set upon the Rock, Christ Jesus.
