참된 신앙인의 분위기에 젖는 모든 사람

참된 신앙인의 분위기에 젖는 모든 사람은 

그 자신  스스로는 의식하지 못하더라도 그가 갖는 그리스도인  생애의 아름다움과 향기를 감지하게 되는 바 그 까닭은 그 감화가 그의 습관과 경향에 일치되기  때문이다.  

그는 하늘의 빛 주시기를 위하여 기도하고 그 빛 안에서 행하기를 좋아한다. 

그에게는 하늘 아버지의  뜻을 행하는 것이 더할 나위 없는 즐거움인 것이다. 

그의 생애는 그리스도와 함께 하나님안에 감취었으나 

그는 이를 자랑하지도 아니하고 또 그것을 의식하고  있는 것 같지도 않다. 

하나님께서는 주님의 발자취를 일심으로 따라가는  겸손하고 겸비한 자들을 보시고 미소하신다. 

천사들은  저들에게 마음이 끌려서 저희의 길을 배회하기를  좋아한다. 

고상한 학식을 가졌다고 주장하고 저희의  선행을 두드러지게 나타내기를 즐기는 자들은 

거들떠 볼  가치가 없다고 하여 그들을 지나쳐 버릴지 모르나 

하늘  천사들은 저들을 사랑스럽게 굽어보며 불로 된 성벽처럼  그들 주위를 두른다.

All who come within the sphere of the true religious man

All who come within the sphere of his [the true religious man] influence perceive the beauty and fragrance of his Christian life, while he himself is unconscious of it, for it is in harmony with his habits and inclinations.  

He prays for divine light, and loves to walk in that light. It is his meat and drink to do the will of his heavenly Father. His life is hid with Christ in God; yet he does not boast of this, nor seem conscious of it.  

God smiles upon the humble and lowly ones who follow closely in the footsteps of the Master. Angels are attracted to them, and love to linger about their path. 

They may be passed by as unworthy of notice by those who claim exalted attainments and who delight in making prominent their good works, but heavenly angels bend lovingly over them and are as a wall of fire round about them.
