고난은 성품을 완성시키는 하나의 수단

 

구주의 말씀에는 재난이나 사별로 고통당하는 자들을 위로하는 기별이 있다.

 

우리의 슬픔은 땅에서 솟아나는 것이 아니다.

 

 

하나님께서 “인생으로 고생하며 근심하게 하심이 본심이 아니시로다”(애 3:33)

 

 

하나님께서 시련과 고난을 허락하실 때,

 

그것은 “우리의 유익을 위하여, 그의 거룩하심에 참예케 하”시기 위함이다. (히 12:10)

 

 

만일 믿음으로 시련을 받아들이면,

 

아무리 감당하기에 괴롭고 어려운 시련처럼 보이는 것도 축복임이 입증될 것이다.

 

 

세상의 기쁨을 시들게 하는 혹독한 바람은 우리의 눈을 하늘로 향하게 하는 수단이 될 것이다.

 

 

만일 예수님 안에서 위로를 구하도록 인도해 준 슬픔이 없었다면

 

예수님을 알지 못했을 사람들이 얼마나 많은가? 

 

 

생애의 시련은 우리의 성품에서 불순물과 거칠은 것을 제거해 주는 하나님의 공작이다.

 

그들을 자르고 깎고 조각하고 광을 내고 윤을 내는 일은 고통스러운 과정이다.

 

연마기에 갈리우는 일은 어려운 일이다.

 

그러나 그 돌은 하늘 성전에서 제자리를 채울 수 있는 준비가 되어 나온다.

 

 

주님께서는 쓸모없는 물건들을 위하여 그처럼 세밀하고 철저하게 노력하지 않으신다.

 

오직 그분의 귀중한 돌들만이 궁전의 식양을 따라 빛나게 다듬어진다. 

 

 

주님께서는 당신을 신뢰하는 모든 사람을 위해 일하실 것이다.

 

신실한 자들은 값진 승리를 얻게 될 것이다.

 

그들은 또한 고귀한 교훈을 배우고 값진 경험을 체득하게 될 것이다.

Suffering—One Means of Perfecting Character

The Savior's words have a message of comfort to those also who are suffering affliction or bereavement. Our sorrows do not spring out of the ground. God “doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.” When He permits trials and afflictions, it is “for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.”

If received in faith, the trial that seems so bitter and hard to bear will prove a blessing. The cruel blow that blights the joys of earth will be the means turning our eyes to Heaven. How many there are who would never have known Jesus had not sorrow led them to seek comfort in Him!

The trials of life are God’s workmen, to remove the impurities and roughness from our character. Their hewing, squaring, and chiseling, their burnishing and polishing, is a painful process; it is hard to be pressed down to the grinding wheel. But the stone is brought forth prepared to fill its place in the heavenly temple. Upon no useless material does the Master bestow such careful, thorough work. only His precious stones are polished after the similitude of a palace.

The Lord will work for all who put their trust in Him. Precious victories will be gained by the faithful. Precious lessons will be learned. Precious experiences will be realized.
