일반인 가운데서 부르심을 받은 일꾼들

 

끝나가는 복음 사업에 있어서 복음으로 점령해야 할 광대한 지역이 우리 앞에 있으므로,

어느 때보다도 더 많은 조력자들을 일반인 중에서 모아야 한다.

밭에서, 포도원에서, 공장에서, 노소를 물론하고 부르심을 받아 구세주의 기별을 전해야 한다.

 

이들의 대부분은 교육을 별로 받지 못한 자들이지만,

그리스도께서는 그들이 당신의 목적을 성취할 자격이 있다고 보신다.

만일, 그들이 이 일에 마음을 두고 배우기를 계속한다면,

그리스도께서는 당신을 위한 일꾼으로서 그를 합당한 자로 만드실 것이다.

 

세상의 비참함과 절망의 깊이를 아시는 그리스도께서는 그들을 구제하는 방법도 아신다.

그분께서는 죄와 불행과 고통으로 암흑 속에서 웅크리고 있는 영혼들을 도처에서 보신다.

동시에, 그리스도께서는 그들의 가능성을 보시며, 그들이 도달할 수 있는 높이도 보신다.

 

비록 사람은 자신에게 주신 은혜를 악용하고, 재능을 낭비하고,

하나님과 같은 인간으로서의 품위를 잃어버렸으나,

창조주께서는 인류의 구속을 통하여 영광을 받으셔야 할 것이다.

 

그리스도께서는 무지한 자와 길 잃은 자들을 동정할 수 있는 사람들에게,

지상의 험난한 곳에서 도움을 필요로 하는 자들을 위하여 일할 무거운 짐을 지워 주신다.

그리스도께서는, 그들의 손이 비록 거칠고 미숙할지라도 동정심을 가질 수 있는 사람들 옆에 서서 그들을 도우신다.

그리스도께서는 불행 중에 은혜를 보고 손실 중에 이익을 볼 수 있는 사람들을 통하여 일하신다. 세상의 빛이신 그리스도께서 지나가실 때에,

그들은 고난 중에 특권을, 혼란 중에 질서를, 분명한 실패에서 성공을 찾아보게 될 것이다.

재난은 변장된 축복으로, 저주는 변장된 자비로 보일 것이다.

 

일반인 가운데서 부르심을 받은 일꾼들은

구세주께서 전 인류의 슬픔을 당하신 것처럼 그들도 동포의 슬픔을 함께 나눌 때,

믿음을 통하여 그리스도께서 그들과 함께 일하시고 계심을 보게 될 것이다.

Laborers from the common people

 

In this closing work of the gospel there is a vast field to be occupied;

and, more than ever before, the work is to enlist helpers from the common people.

Both the youth and those older in years will be called from the field, from the vineyard,

and from the workshop, and sent forth by the Master to give His message.

Many of these have had little opportunity for education;

but Christ sees in them qualifications that will enable them to fulfill His purpose.

If they put their hearts into the work, and continue to be learners,

He will fit them to labor for Him. 

He who knows the depths of the world’s misery and despair,

knows by what means to bring relief.

He sees on every hand souls in darkness, bowed down with sin and sorrow and pain.

But He sees also their possibilities; He sees the height to which they may attain.

Although human beings have abused their mercies, wasted their talents,

and lost the dignity of godlike manhood, the Creator is to be glorified in their redemption.

The burden of labor for these needy ones in the rough places of the earth Christ lays

upon those who can feel for the ignorant and for such as are out of the way.

He will be present to help those whose hearts are susceptible to pity,

though their hands may be rough and unskilled.

He will work through those who can see mercy in misery, and gain in loss.

When the Light of the world passes by, privilege will be discerned in hardship,

order in confusion, success in apparent failure.

Calamities will be seen as disguised blessings; woes, as mercies.

Laborers from the common people,

sharing the sorrows of their fellow men as their Master

shared the sorrows of the whole human race, will by faith see Him working with them.
