믿음의 시련

 

믿음의 시련은 금보다 더 귀하다. 

모든 사람은 이것이 그리스도의 학교에서 배우는 교육의 일부분, 

곧 그들을 세속적인 찌꺼기에서 순결하게 해주고 정화시켜 주는 데 필수적인

교육의 일부분임을 깨달아야 한다. 

 

그들은 원수들의 조소와 공격을 불굴의 정신으로 견디고, 

사단이 그들의 앞길을 가로막기 위하여 놓아 둔 모든 장애를 극복해야 한다. 

사단은 그들로 기도를 등한히 하고 성경 연구를 그치게 하고자 노력할 것이다. 

그리고, 그는 그리스도와 하늘의 아름다움을 그들의 시야에서 숨겨 버리기 위하여

그들의 앞길을 가로질러 자신의 증오스런 그림자를 던질 것이다.

어떤 사람도 항상 의심을 품고 위축되어 떨면서, 

그리고 자신의 길에 불평의 씨를 뿌리면서 걸어가서는 안 된다. 

오히려 모든 사람은 하나님을 바라보고 그분의 선하심을 깨닫고

그분의 사랑 안에서 즐거워해야 한다. 

 

그대들은 모든 힘을 다 동원하여 위를 쳐다보고 그대들의 어려움을 내려다보지 말라. 

그리하면, 그대들은 도중에서 쇠약해지지 않을 것이다. 

그대들은 구름 뒤에서 그대들을 도와 주기 위하여 손을 뻗고 계시는 예수님을

오래지 않아 보게 될 것이다. 

그러므로, 그대들이 해야 할 일은

단순한 믿음으로 그대들의 손을 그분께 맡기고

그분께서 그대들을 인도하게 하는 것이다. 

 

그대들이 신뢰하게 될 때, 

그대들은 예수님을 믿는 믿음으로 말미암아 희망찬 생활을 하게 될 것이다. 

 

갈바리에서 비쳐 오는 빛은

하나님께서 영혼을 어떻게 평가하시는지 그대들에게 보여 줄 것이다.

그리고, 그대들은 그런 평가에 감사함으로써 그 빛을 세상에 반사하고자 노력하게 될 것이다.

The Trial of Faith

 

The trial of faith is more precious than gold.

All should learn that this is a part of the discipline in the school of Christ,

which is essential to purify and refine them from the dross of earthliness.

 

They must endure with fortitude the taunts and attacks of enemies,

and overcome all obstacles that Satan may place in their path to hedge up the way.

He will try to lead them to neglect prayer

and to discourage them in the study of the Scriptures,

and he will throw his hateful shadow athwart their path to hide Christ

and the heavenly attractions from their view.

 

None should go along shrinking and trembling, under continual doubt, sowing their path

with complainings;

but all should look up to God and see His goodness and rejoice in His love.

 

Summon all your powers to look up, not down at your difficulties;

then you will never faint by the way.

You will soon see Jesus behind the cloud, reaching out His hand to help you;

and all you have to do is to give Him your hand in simple faith and let Him lead you. 

 

As you become trustful you will, through faith in Jesus, become hopeful.

 

The light shining from the cross of Calvary will reveal to you God’s estimate of the soul,

and, appreciating that estimate, you will seek to reflect the light to the world.
