일들이 잘못되어 갈 때에 감사를?

 

“주님께서는 일들이 잘못되어 갈 때에 감사하기를 진정 원하실까? 

그분께서 우리에게 “범사에” 감사하라고 하셨지만, 

그것이 우리가 가진 돈이 월말이 되기 전에 바닥이 날 때에도 감사하여야 한다는 의미일까? 

그렇다. 

그것이 외로움과 우울증으로 힘들 때도 감사하여야 한다는 의미일까? 

그렇다. 

그것이 우리 고용주로부터 해고를 통보 받았을 때도 감사하여야 한다는 의미일까? 

물론이다.

그것이 터무니없다고 생각하는가?  

아마도.

 

그렇지만 아주 확실한 이유들이 있다. 

그것은 하나님이 우리에게 그분 자신의 이기적인 목적을 위하여 감사하라고 명하시는 것이 아니라, 

우리 자신의 삶을 축복하기 위해서이기 때문이다. 

 

범사에 감사하는 것을 배우는 것은 우리가 다른 방법으로는 결코 알 수 없을 정도의 평화를 증진시켜준다. 

그 자신이 역경을 상당히 겪었던 구약성경의 다윗왕은, 

“내가 여호와를 항상 송축함이여 내 입술로 항상 주를 찬양하리이다(시편34:1)”이라고 선포하였다.”

 

오늘은 

The Impossible Just Takes a Little Longer: Living with Purpose and Passion 에 나오는 

아트 버그(Art Berg)의 글을 인용하였습니다. 

 

이 글이 무게가 있다고 느껴지는 것은

그가 21세에 건강하고, 사업이 발전하고, 약혼자와의 결혼을 앞두고 차사고가 나서

사지마비 장애자가 되었던 사람의 글이기 때문입니다. 

의사는 그가 걸을 수 없고, 일할 수 없고, 자녀를 가질 수 없다고 하였지만, 

그는 하나님을 의지하고 감사하였습니다. 그리고, 많은 사람들을 돕는 강연자가 되었습니다. 

 

그가 감사할 수 있다면... 

어떤 상황에서도 감사하도록 우리 자신을 훈련시키도록 하십시다! 

일이 잘못 되어 갈 때, 오히려 감사한다면 하나님께 더 큰 영광을 돌리게 되지 않을까요?

 

Grateful when things aren't going well?

 

“Does the Lord really expect us to be grateful when things aren't going well?

Even though He said we should grateful "in all things,"

does that mean we should be grateful

when we reach the end of our money before the end of the month? Yes.

Does that mean we should be grateful

when we suffer from loneliness and depression? Yes.

Does that mean we should be grateful if our employer terminates us? Absolutely.

Does that seem ridiculous? It might.

But there are very valid reasons.

It is not that God commands us to be grateful in all things

to serve His own selfish purposes, but rather to bless our own lives.

 

Learning to be grateful in all things promotes a measure of peace that

we may never know otherwise.

In the Old Testament, King David, who certainly had his share of adversity declared,

"I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Today, I would like to quote this that I read yesterday.  

I feel a weight from the words because these are the words of Art Berg who became a quadriplegic from a car accident when he was 21 years old.

He was healthy, flourishing in his business, having a beautiful fiancée,

and it happened just before his marriage.  

Doctors told Berg he would never walk, hold a job, or have children.

However, he depended on God and was grateful to the Lord.

He became one of the best motivational speakers and helped many.

If he could thank God in all things…

Let’s discipline ourselves to thank our Lord always!
