마태복음 5:14~5:16

 

14 너희는 세상의 빛이라 산 위에 있는 동네가 숨겨지지 못할 것이요

15 사람이 등불을 켜서 말 아래에 두지 아니하고 등경 위에 두나니 이러므로 집 안 모든 사람에게 비치느니라

16 이같이 너희 빛이 사람 앞에 비치게 하여

그들로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라

 

 

Reflecting the Son  [아들 예수 그리스도를 반사함]

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. -John 1:5

빛이 어둠에 비치되 어둠이 깨닫지 못하더라-요한복음 1:5

 

Due to its location among sheer mountains and its northern latitude, Rjukan, Norway,

does not see natural sunlight from October to March.

To lighten up the town, the citizens installed large mirrors on the mountainside to reflect

the sunrays and beam sunlight into the town square.

The continuous glow is made possible

because the giant mirrors rotate with the rising and setting sun.

 

노르웨이의 리우칸 마을은 높은 위도 상의 위치와 주변의 깎아지른 듯한 산들 때문에

10월부터 3월까지 자연적으로는 햇빛이 들지 않습니다.

마을을 밝히기 위해 사람들은 산 위에 대형 거울들을 설치해서

마을 광장에 햇빛이 반사되도록 하였습니다.

이 대형 거울들은 해가 뜨고 지는 방향대로 같이 회전하기 때문에 계속해서 빛을 비출 수 있습니다.

I like to think of the Christian life as a similar scenario.

Jesus said His followers are “the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14).

John the disciple wrote that Christ the true light “shines in the darkness” (John 1:5).

So too, Jesus invites us to reflect our light into the darkness around us:

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and

glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:16).

That is a call for us to show love in the face of hatred, patience in response to trouble,

and peace in moments of conflict.

As the apostle Paul reminds us,

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light” (Eph. 5:8).

 

나는 그리스도인의 삶에 대해서도 이와 비슷한 이야기로 생각하는 것을 좋아합니다.

예수님은 주님을 따르는 사람들에게 “세상의 빛”(마 5:14)이라고 말씀하셨습니다.

예수님의 제자 요한은 그리스도의 참 빛이 “어둠에 비치되”(요 1:5)라고 기록했습니다.

그래서 예수님은 우리에게도 우리 주위의 어둠에 우리의 빛을 비추라고 권유하십니다.

“너희 빛이 사람 앞에 비치게 하여 그들로 너희 착한 행실을 보고

하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라”(마 5:16).

증오가 있는 곳에 사랑을 보여주며, 환난에는 인내로 반응하고, 갈등의 순간에 화평을 나타내기 위해 우리를 부르신 것입니다. 바울사도는 우리에게

“너희가 전에는 어둠이더니 이제는 주 안에서 빛이라 빛의 자녀들처럼 행하라”(엡 5:8)라고

상기시켜줍니다.

Jesus also said, “I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Our light is a reflection of Jesus the Son.

Just as without the sun the large mirrors of Rjukan would have no light to reflect,

so too we can do nothing without Jesus. - Lawrence Darmani

 

예수님도 “나는 세상의 빛이니 나를 따르는 자는 어둠에 다니지 아니하고 생명의 빛을 얻으리라”

(요 8:12)라고 말씀하셨습니다.

우리의 빛은 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도의 빛을 반사하는 것입니다.

태양이 없이는 리우칸의 대형 거울들이 빛을 반사할 수 없는 것처럼

우리도 예수님 없이는 아무것도 할 수 없습니다.

 

Teach us, Lord, what it is to reflect Your light,

especially when life’s demands can tempt us to live selfishly.

Help us today to live in Your love.

 

주님, 주님의 빛을 비춘다는 것이 어떤 것인지를 가르쳐주소서.

특히 삶의 욕망이 우리를 이기적으로 살도록 유혹할 때 그것을 가르쳐주소서.

오늘 우리가 주님의 사랑 안에서 살도록 도와주소서.

 

Reflect the Son and shine for Him.

 

하나님의 아들의 빛을 반사하고 주님을 위해 빛을 비추라.
