Do Not Let Go of God’s Arm Too Soon

하나님의 팔에서 너무 빨리 떠나지 말라

 

I asked the angel why there was no more faith and power in Israel.

He said, “Ye let go of the arm of the Lord too soon.

Press your petitions to the throne, and hold on by strong faith.

The promises are sure.

Believe ye receive the things ye ask for, and ye shall have them.”

 

나는 천사에게 왜 이스라엘에게 더 큰 믿음과 능력이 없느냐고 물었더니 천사가 대답하기를

“그대들은 너무도 빨리 주님의 팔에서 떠난다.

그대의 탄원을 보좌에 올리고 굳센 믿음으로 그의 약속을 붙들어라.

그분의 약속들은 확실하니 네가 구한 것을 받은 줄로 믿으라. 그리하면 그대가 받으리라”고 하였다.

 

I was then pointed to Elijah.

He was subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly.

His faith endured the trial.

Seven times he prayed before the Lord, and at last the cloud was seen.

I saw that we had doubted the sure promises,

and wounded the Saviour by our lack of faith.

Said the angel, “Gird the armor about thee, and above all take the shield of faith;

for that will guard the heart, the very life, from the fiery darts of the wicked.”

 

그 후에 나는 엘리야를 보았다.

그는 우리와 같은 성정을 가진 사람이었으나 열렬히 기도했다.

그의 믿음은 시련을 견디었다.

그는 일곱 번 주님 앞에 기도드렸고 드디어 구름이 나타났다.

나는 우리들이 확실한 약속들을 의심하고 우리의 믿음의 부족이 구주를 불쾌하게 만드는 것을 보았다.

천사는 말하기를 “전신갑주를 입고 무엇보다도 믿음의 방패를 취하라.

이는 악한 자의 불같은 창으로부터 심장, 즉 생명을 보호하기 위함이다”라고 했다.

 

If the enemy can lead the desponding to take their eyes off from Jesus,

and look to themselves, and dwell upon their own unworthiness,

instead of dwelling upon the worthiness of Jesus, His love, His merits,

and His great mercy, he will get away their shield of faith and gain his object;

they will be exposed to his fiery temptations.

The weak should therefore look to Jesus, and believe in Him; they then exercise faith.

 

만일 원수가 낙심한 자들의 시선을 예수께로부터 돌려 자기 자신을 보게 하고

그들을 예수님의 고귀하신 사랑과 공로와 크신 자비를 생각하는 대신에

자기 자신들의 비천함만을 생각하게 할 수 있다면

원수는 그들에게서 믿음의 방패를 빼앗고 그의 목적을 이루게 될 것이며

그들은 원수의 맹렬한 유혹에 노출되고 말 것이다.

그러므로 약한 자는 예수님을 쳐다보아야 하며 그를 믿어야 한다.

그런 후에 그들은 믿음을 행사해야 한다.
