하나님의 인

 

 

용기, 불굴의 인내, 믿음, 구원하시는 하나님의 능력을 무조건 신뢰 하는 것 등은

순간적으로 주어지지 않는다.

이 하늘의 덕성들은 다년간의 경험에서 얻어진다.

 

거룩한 노력의 생애와 의에 대한 확고한 집착에 의하여 하나님의 자녀들은 그들의 운명을 인쳤다.

무수한 유혹에 둘러싸인 그들은 저항하지 않으면 정복당할 수밖에 없다는 것을 알았다.

그들은 완수해야 할 큰 사업이 있다는 것과,

언제 그들의 갑옷을 벗으라는 요구를 받을지도 모른다고 느꼈다.

그러므로 그들이 사업을 완수하지 못한 채 생애의 종말을 맞게 되면 영원한 손실이 될 것이다.

 

그들은 마치 최초의 제자들이 예수님의 입술에서 받은 것처럼 하늘에서 온 빛을 열렬하게 받았다.

그 초기의 그리스도인들이 산과 광야로 추방되었을 때,

지하 감옥에 들어가 기아와 추위와 고문으로 죽게 되었을 때,

순교만이 그들의 고통에서 벗어나는 유일의 길인 것처럼 보였을 때

그들은 그들을 위하여 십자가에 달리신 그리스도를 위하여 고난받기에 합당한 자로 인정받은 것을

기뻐했다.

 

그들의 귀중한 모본은

이전에 결코 없었던 환난의 때를 당하게 될 하나님의 백성들에게 위로와 용기가 될 것이다.

 

The Seal of God

 

Courage, fortitude, faith, and implicit trust in God’s power to save

do not come in a moment.

These heavenly graces are acquired by the experience of years.

 

By a life of holy endeavor and firm adherence to the right the children of God

were sealing their destiny.

Beset with temptations without number,

they knew they must resist firmly or be conquered.

They felt that they had a great work to do,

and at any hour they might be called to lay off their armor;

and should they come to the close of life with their work undone,

it would be an eternal loss.

 

They eagerly accepted the light from heaven,

as did the first disciples from the lips of Jesus.

When those early Christians were exiled to mountains and deserts,

when left in dungeons to die with hunger, cold, and torture,

when martyrdom seemed the only way out of their distress,

they rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer for Christ,

who was crucified for them.

 

Their worthy example will be a comfort and encouragement to the people of God

who will be brought into the time of trouble such as never was.
