범사가 기한이 있고 천하 만사가 다 때가 있나니

날 때가 있고 죽을 때가 있으며 심을 때가 있고 심은 것을 뽑을 때가 있으며

죽일 때가 있고 치료할 때가 있으며 헐 때가 있고 세울 때가 있으며

울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있으며 슬퍼할 때가 있고 춤출 때가 있으며

돌을 던져 버릴 때가 있고 돌을 거둘 때가 있으며 안을 때가 있고 안는 일을 멀리 할 때가 있으며

찾을 때가 있고 잃을 때가 있으며 지킬 때가 있고 버릴 때가 있으며

찢을 때가 있고 꿰맬 때가 있으며 잠잠할 때가 있고 말할 때가 있으며

사랑할 때가 있고 미워할 때가 있으며 전쟁할 때가 있고 평화할 때가 있느니라

 

 

A SEASON FOR EVERYTHING

To everything there is a season. -Ecclesiastes 3:1

In the 1960s, the folk-rock band The Byrds popularized the song “Turn! Turn! Turn!” It climbed to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and gained worldwide popularity. People seemed captivated by the lyrics. Interestingly, though, except for the last line, those lyrics are from the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes. “To everything there is a season,” proclaims the writer of Ecclesiastes, “a time for every purpose under heaven” (3:1). He then lists some of the seasons in human experience: birth and death, gain and loss, tears and laughter, mourning and dancing. Just as the seasons in nature change, so do the seasons in our lives. Our circumstances never stay the same for long. Sometimes we welcome change in our lives. But often it is difficult, especially when it involves sorrow and loss. Yet even then we can be thankful that God does not change. “I am the Lord,” He said through the prophet Malachi, “I do not change” (Mal. 3:6). Because God remains the same, we can rely on Him through the shifting seasons of life. His presence is always with us (Ps. 46:1), His peace has the power to guard our hearts (Phil. 4:7), and His love provides security for our souls (Rom. 8:39). -Jennifer Benson Schuldt

1960년대에 버드라는 록 밴드는 “돌고, 돌고, 돌아” 라는 노래를 유행시켰습니다. 이 노래는 빌보드 인기곡 100위 순위에서 1위를 차지하면서 세계적으로 유행하게 되었습니다. 사람들은 이 노래의 가사에 매료되었던 것 같았습니다. 그런데 흥미롭게도 이 노래의 가사는 맨 끝줄만 제외하고는 모두 구약성경의 전도서에서 나왔습니다. 전도서의 기자는 “범사에 기한이 있고 천하 만사가 다 때가 있나니”(3:1)라고 선언합니다. 그런 다음 그는 인간사에도 때가 있음을 열거합니다. 날 때가 있고 죽을 때가 있으며, 얻을 때가 있고 잃을 때가 있으며, 울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있으며, 슬퍼할 때가 있고 춤출 때가 있음을 말합니다. 마치 자연계에서 계절이 바뀌듯이 우리 삶에서도 계절이 바뀌면서, 우리에게 주어진 환경은 결코 오랫동안 머물러 있지 않습니다. 우리는 가끔 우리 삶의 변화를 좋아합니다. 그러나 그 변화가 특히 슬픔이나 상실로 인한 경우에는 종종 힘들어합니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 하나님은 변치 않으시기에 우리는 감사할 수 있습니다. 하나님은 말라기 선지자를 통하여 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “나 여호와는 변하지 아니하나니”(말 3:6). 하나님께서 변치 않으시니, 우리는 인생의 계절이 바뀔지라도 그분을 의지할 수 있습니다. 하나님은 항상 우리와 함께 하시고(시 46:1), 하나님의 평강이 우리의 마음과 생각을 지켜주시며(빌 4:7), 하나님의 사랑이 우리의 영혼을 지켜주십니다(롬 8:39).

내 주는 강한 성이요 방패와 병기되시니 큰 환난에서 우리를 구하여 내시리로다

(하나님의 변치 않으시는 신실하심이 격변의) 시기에도 우리의 안전을 보장해준다.
