| SWEET FRAGRANCE |
| We are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. -2 Corinthians 2:15 |
| Some scents are unforgettable. Recently, my husband mentioned he was running low on shaving cream. “I’ll pick some up,” I offered. “Can you get this kind?” he asked, showing me the can. “I love the smell-it’s the kind my dad always used.” I smiled, recalling the time I had been momentarily taken back to my childhood when I got a whiff of the same shampoo my mom used to wash my hair. For both Tom and me, the fragrances had brought an emotional response and pleasant memory of people we loved who were no longer around. Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Memories, imagination, old sentiments, and associations are more readily reached through the sense of smell than through any other channel.” So, what if our lives were a fragrance that attracted people to God? Second Corinthians 2:15 says that “we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” Our fragrance is pleasing to God, but it also attracts others to Him or repels them. We who understand the sacrifice of Jesus have the opportunity to be the “fragrance of Christ”-a reminder of Him-to others. | 우리는 구원 받는 자들에게나 망하는 자들에게나 하나님 앞에서 그리스도의 향기니-고린도후서 2:15 |
| 결코 잊을 수 없는 향기가 있습니다. 얼마 전에 남편이 면도크림이 다 떨어져 간다고 해서 “내가 사다 줄게요.” 했더니, 남편이 통을 보여주면서 이렇게 말했습니다. “이걸로 사다 줄래? 난 이 냄새가 참 좋아. 아버지가 늘 사용하시던 거거든.” 나는 언젠가 어머니가 내 머리를 감겨주실 때 쓰던 샴푸와 같은 냄새를 맡았을 때 잠시 어린 시절로 돌아갔던 순간이 떠올라 미소 지었습니다. 그 향기들은 남편에게나 나에게 감정적인 반응을 유발하여, 이제는 이 세상에 없는 사랑하는 사람들에 대한 기분 좋은 기억을 떠올리게 했던 것입니다. 올리버 웬델 홈즈는 “기억, 상상, 감회, 연상 등은 다른 어떤 통로보다도 후각을 통해 잘 유발된다.”라고 말했습니다. 만약 우리의 삶이 사람들을 하나님께로 끌어들이는 향기라면 어떻겠습니까? 고린도후서 2장 15절은 “우리는 구원 받는 자들에게나 망하는 자들에게나 하나님 앞에서 그리스도의 향기”라고 말합니다. 하나님은 우리의 향기를 기뻐하십니다. 그러나 그것은 다른 사람들을 그분께 끌어들이기도 하고 밀어내기도 합니다. 우리는 예수님의 희생이 무엇인지를 이해하기에 다른 사람들에게 예수님을 생각나게 하는 “그리스도의 향기”가 될 수 있습니다. 그리스도를 닮은 달콤한 향기는 구주께로 향하는 저항할 수 없는 매력이 될 수 있습니다. |

| 하나님과 동행할 때 우리는 달콤한 향기를 남겨 다른 사람들이 따라오게 한다. |
