그리스도를 위한 사신

그리스도의 나라는 법정이나 회의나 입법 기관의 결정, 또는 세상의 위인들의 후원을 얻어 설립되는 것이 아니요, 성령의 역할을 통하여 그리스도의 성품을 인간의 마음에 심음으로 이루어진다. “영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니 이는 혈통으로나 육정으로나 사람의 뜻으로 나지 아니하고 오직 하나님께로서 난 자들이니라”(요 1：12, 13). 510 여기에 인류를 향상시킬 수 있는 유일한 능력이 있다. 그러므로 이 사업을 성취하기 위한 인간의 일은 하나님의 말씀을 가르치고 또 실행하는 것이다...

그리스도 당시와 마찬가지로 오늘날도 하나님 나라의 사업은 세상의 통치자들과 인간의 법률의 인정과 지지를 극성스럽게 요구하고 있는 사람들에게가 아니라, 백성들에게 그분의 이름으로 영적 진리 즉 그것을 받아들이는 자들 속에 바울의 경험을 이루어 낼 다음과 같은 영적 진리를 선포하고 있는 자들에게 맡겨지게 될 것이다. “내가 그리스도와 함께 십자가에 못 박혔나니 그런즉 이제는 내가 산 것이 아니요 오직 내 안에 그리스도께서 사신 것이라”(갈 2：20). 그렇게 될 때 그들도 바울처럼 사람들의 유익을 위하여 일하게 될 것이다. 바울은 “이러므로 우리가 그리스도를 대신하여 사신이 되어 하나님이 우리로 너희를 권면하시는 것같이 그리스도를 대신하여 간구하노니 너희는 하나님과 화목하라”(고후 5：20)고 말하였다. – 시대의 소망, 509-10.

Ambassadors for Christ

Not by the decisions of courts or councils or legislative assemblies, not by the patronage of worldly great men, is the kingdom of Christ established, but by the implanting of Christ's nature in humanity through the work of the Holy Spirit. "As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12, 13. Here is the only power that can work the uplifting of mankind. And the human agency for the accomplishment of this work is the teaching and practicing of the word of God.

Now, as in Christ's day, the work of God's kingdom lies not with those who are clamoring for recognition and support by earthly rulers and human laws, but with those who are declaring to the people in His name those spiritual truths that will work in the receivers the experience of Paul: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me." Gal. 2:20. Then they will labor as did Paul for the benefit of men. He said, "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God." 2 Cor. 5:20. – Desires of Ages, 509-10.
