DRESSED TO DECEIVE

Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. -Matthew 7:15

Hiking in the mountains of Utah, Coty Creighton spotted a goat that didn’t look like the rest of the herd. A closer look revealed that the unusual animal was actually a man dressed as a goat. When authorities contacted the man, he described his costume as a painter’s suit covered in fleece, and he said he was testing his disguise for a hunting trip. The hunter’s deception reminds me of Jesus’ words: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves” (Matt. 7:15). False teachers do not bear the fruit of God’s Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). Rather, they “walk according to the flesh . . . and despise authority” (2 Peter 2:10). They are bold, egotistical, and given to greed (vv.10,14). Ruled by their own desires, they exploit people by using “deceptive words” (v.3). The Bible says these wayward spiritual leaders are headed for destruction and will take many unsuspecting and undiscerning people with them (vv.1-2). Jesus, the Good Shepherd, rather than pursuing personal gain, laid down His life for His sheep. God does not want anyone to be misled by false teaching. He wants us to be aware of those who deceive, and follow Him instead-the true Shepherd of our souls. -Jennifer Benson Schuldt

거짓 선지자들을 삼가라 양의 옷을 입고 너희에게 나아오나 속에는 노략질하는 이리라-마태복음 7:15

유타주에 있는 산을 오르면서 코티 크레이튼은 다른 무리들과 좀 달라 보이는 산양 한 마리를 목격했습니다. 자세히 보니 그 색다른 동물은 사실 양털을 뒤집어쓴 사람이었습니다. 담당 관리가 그에게 묻자, 그는 그 복장이 페인트 인부들이 입는 옷에 양털을 씌운 것이라고 설명하면서 사냥여행을 위해 그 변장을 시험하고 있었다고 말했습니다. 그 사냥꾼의 속임수는 예수님이 “거짓 선지자들을 삼가라 양의 옷을 입고 너희에게 나아오나 속에는 노략질하는 이리라”(마 7:15)라고 하신 말씀을 생각나게 해줍니다. 거짓 교사들은 성령의 열매를 맺지 못합니다(갈 5:22-23). 그들은 “육체를 따라…행하며 주관하는 이를 멸시하는 자들”(벧후 2:10)입니다. 그들은 뻔뻔하고 이기적이며 탐욕에 물든 사람들입니다(벧후 2:10,14). 그들은 자신의 탐심에 얽매여 “지어낸 말”을 가지고 사람들을 이용합니다(2:3). 성경은 이들 거짓영적지도자들이 멸망을 향해 가며, 분별력이 부족하여 의심 없이 그들을 믿고 따르는 많은 사람들을 같이 멸망으로 이끈다고 말합니다(1-2절). 선한 목자이신 예수님은 자신의 이익을 추구하지 않으시고 주님의 양들을 위해 자신의 목숨을 내어주셨습니다. 하나님은 어느 누구도 거짓 가르침으로 잘못 이끌려가는 것을 원하지 않으십니다. 하나님은 우리가 속이려 하는 자를 제대로 감지하고, 대신에 우리 영혼의 참된 목자이신 예수님을 따르기를 원하십니다.

예수님의 이름 앞에 모두 무릎 꿇고 경배하며 모든 입술이 주님을 지금 영광의 왕이라 고백하네

비슷한 것은 많아도 그리스도는 오직 한 분이시다.
