그리스도의 살을 먹고 피를 마시는 것

 

 

“내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니

인자의 살을 먹지 아니하고 인자의 피를 마시지 아니하면 너희 속에 생명이 없느니라. 내 살을 먹고 내 피를 마시는 자는 영생을 가졌고

마지막 날에 내가 그를 다시 살리리니

내 살은 참된 양식이요 내 피는 참된 음료로다.

내 살을 먹고 내 피를 마시는 자는 내 안에 거하고 나도 그 안에 거하나니.”

 

그리스도의 살을 먹고 피를 마시는 것은

그분께서 우리의 죄를 사하신다는 것과 우리가 그분 안에서 완전하게 된다는 것을 믿고

그분을 개인의 구주로 받아들이는 것을 의미한다.

 

우리가 그분의 성품에 참여하게 되는 것은

그분의 사랑을 바라보고 그것을 깊이 생각하고 그것을 흡수해 들임으로써이다.

음식이 신체에 영향을 주듯이 그리스도께서 영혼에 영향을 끼치셔야 한다.

음식은 우리가 그것을 먹지 않는 한, 그것이 우리 신체의 일부가 되지 않는 한

우리에게 아무런 유익이 될 수 없다.

그와 같이 우리가 그리스도를 개인의 구주로 알지 않는다면, 그분은 우리에게 아무런 가치가 없다.

이론적 지식은 우리에게 아무 유익도 주지 못한다.

그분을 먹고 그분을 마음에 받아들여 그분의 생명이 우리의 생명이 되게 해야 한다.

그분의 사랑과 그분의 은혜가 우리의 생애에 동화되어야 한다.

그러나 이런 상징까지라도 신자가 그리스도와의 관계에서 갖는 특권을 나타낼 수 없다.

예수께서는

“살아 계신 아버지께서 나를 보내시매 내가 아버지로 인하여 사는 것 같이

나를 먹는 그 사람도 나로 인하여 살리라”고 말씀하셨다.

하나님의 아들께서 아버지를 믿는 믿음으로 사신 것처럼

우리도 그리스도를 믿는 믿음으로 살아야 한다.

예수께서는 자신을 하나님의 뜻에 완전히 내어 맡기셨으므로

그분의 생애에는 아버지만 나타나셨다.

 

모든 일에 우리와 한결같이 시험을 받으셨지만

그분은 당신을 에워싼 악에 의해 더럽힘을 받지 않고 세상 앞에 서셨다.

 

이와 같이 우리도 그리스도께서 이기신 것처럼 이겨야 한다.

 

 

To Eat the Flesh and Drink the Blood of Christ

 

 

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He that eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, dwelleth in Me, and I in him."

To eat the flesh and drink the blood of Christ is to receive Him as a personal Saviour, believing that He forgives our sins, and that we are complete in Him. It is by beholding His love, by dwelling upon it, by drinking it in, that we are to become partakers of His nature. What food is to the body, Christ must be to the soul. Food cannot benefit us unless we eat it, unless it becomes a part of our being. So Christ is of no value to us if we do not know Him as a personal Saviour. A theoretical knowledge will do us no good. We must feed upon Him, receive Him into the heart, so that His life becomes our life. His love, His grace, must be assimilated.

But even these figures fail to present the privilege of the believer's relation to Christ. Jesus said, "As the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth Me, even he shall live by Me." As the Son of God lived by faith in the Father, so are we to live by faith in Christ. So fully was Jesus surrendered to the will of God that the Father alone appeared in His life. Although tempted in all points like as we are, He stood before the world untainted by the evil that surrounded Him. Thus we also are to overcome as Christ overcame. – Desires of Ages, 389.
