ADOPTION

He chose us in Him . . . having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself. -Ephesians 1:4-5

My wife, Marlene, and I have been married for over 35 years. When we were first dating, we had a conversation I have never forgotten. She told me that at 6 months old she had been adopted. When I asked her if she ever wondered about who her real parents were, she responded, “My mom and dad could have selected any of a number of other babies that day, but they chose me. They adopted me. They are my real parents.” That strong sense of identification and gratitude she has for her adoptive parents should also mark our relationship with God. As followers of Christ, we have been born from above through faith in Him and have been adopted into the family of God. Paul wrote, “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will” (Eph. 1:4-5). Notice the nature of this transaction. We have been chosen by God and adopted as His sons and daughters. Through adoption, we have a radically new relationship with God. He is our beloved Father! May this relationship stir our hearts to worship Him-our Father-with gratitude. -Bill Crowder

입양

그리스도 안에서 우리를 택하사…우리를 예정하사 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 자기의 아들들이 되게 하셨으니-에베소서 1:4-5

내 아내 말린과 결혼한 지 35년이 넘었습니다. 나는 우리의 첫 데이트에서 나누었던 대화를 결코 잊을 수 없습니다. 그녀는 생후 6개월 때 입양되었다고 말했습니다. 친부모가 누구인지 궁금하지 않았느냐고 묻자 그녀는 “그날 내 엄마와 아빠는 많은 아이들 중에 다른 누군가를 택할 수 있었지만 나를 선택하셨어요. 나를 입양하셨지요. 그분들이 바로 내 친부모님이세요.”라고 대답했습니다. 아내가 양부모님에 대해 갖고 있는 그처럼 강한 인식과 감사하는 마음이 우리와 하나님과의 관계에서도 똑같이 나타나야 합니다. 그리스도를 따르는 우리는 하나님 안에서 믿음으로 말미암아 위로부터 태어난 바 되었고 하나님의 가족으로 입양되었습니다. 바울은 하나님이 “창세 전에 그리스도 안에서 우리를 택하사 우리로 사랑 안에서 그 앞에 거룩하고 흠이 없게 하시려고 그 기쁘신 뜻대로 우리를 예정하사 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 자기의 아들들이 되게 하셨으니”(엡 1:4-5)라고 기록하였습니다. 이 사건의 본질을 생각해봅시다. 우리는 하나님에 의해 선택받아 하나님의 아들과 딸로 입양되었습니다. 입양을 통해 우리는 하나님과 근본적으로 새로운 관계를 맺게 되었습니다. 하나님은 우리의 사랑하는 아버지이십니다! 이 관계가 우리의 심령에 감동을 일으켜 하나님 우리 아버지를 감사함으로 예배할 수 있기를 기원합니다.

사랑하는 아버지, 나를 당신의 자녀 삼으셔서 당신의 가족이 되게 하시니 감사합니다. 나를 당신의 것으로 삼아주심에 진심으로 감사합니다.

하나님은 마치 세상에 하나뿐인 것처럼 우리 한 사람 한 사람을 사랑하신다.
