순응으로 표준들이 낮아짐

세상의 관습들에 대한 순응은 교회를 세상으로 돌아가게 만든다. 그것은 결코 세상을 그리스도께로 회심시키지 못한다. 죄에 친숙하게 되면 그것은 필연적으로 덜 혐오스럽게 된다. 사단의 종들과 교제하기로 선택하는 사람은 머지않아 그들의 주인을 두려워하기를 그친다. 왕의 궁정에 있었던 다니엘처럼 의무를 수행하는 과정에서 우리가 시련 속에 이끌려 들어갈 때, 우리는 하나님께서 우리를 보호하실 것을 확신할 수 있다. 그러나 우리 스스로 유혹 아래 들어간다면, 우리는 조만간 넘어질 것이다.-각 시대의 대쟁투, 509 (1888).

순종으로 서서히 바른 원칙들이 왜곡됨—우리 백성들이 그들의 위치를 잃어 버리는 것은 세상에 순응하기 때문이다. 옳은 원칙의 왜곡은 갑작스럽게 발생하지 않았다. 여호와의 천사들은 이 문제를 상징으로 내게 제시했다. 마치 도적이 점점 더 가까이 눈치 채지 못하게 다가와서, 우리 형제들을 세상 정책들에 일치하도록 이끎으로써 하나님 사업의 정체성을 몰래 훔쳐가고 있다.

사람의 마음은 당연히 하나님께 속한 자리를 차지해 오고 있다. 어떤 자리를 차지하고 있든지 간에, 그가 얼마나 지위가 높든지 간에, 사랑은 그리스도께서 그의 처지에 계셨다면 행하실 것처럼 행해야 한다. 그가 행하는 일의 손질 하나 하나마다, 그가 하는 말과 품성에서 그는 그리스도를 닮아야 한다.-MS 96, 1902.

Conformity Lowers Standards

Conformity to worldly customs converts the church to the world; it never converts the world to Christ. Familiarity with sin will inevitably cause it to appear less repulsive. He who chooses to associate with the servants of Satan will soon cease to fear their master. When in the way of duty we are brought into trial, as was Daniel in the king's court, we may be sure that God will protect us; but if we place ourselves under temptation, we shall fall sooner or later.--GC 509 (1888).

Conformity Gradually Perverts Right Principles. --It is conformity to the world that is causing our people to lose their bearings. The perversion of right principles has not been brought about suddenly. The angel of the Lord presented this matter to me in symbols. It seemed as if a thief were stealthily moving closer and still closer and gradually but surely stealing away the identity of God's work by leading our brethren to conform to worldly policies.

The mind of man has taken the place that rightfully belongs to God. Whatever position a man may hold, however exalted he may be, he should act as Christ would were He in his place. In every stroke of work that he performs, in his words and in his character, he should be Christlike.--MS 96, 1902.
