지능을 최대한 계발할 책임

 

 

하나님께서는 지능을 훈련할 것을 요구하신다.

그분은 당신의 종들이 세상 사람들보다 더욱 많은 재능과 더욱 명석한 식별력을 갖기 원하신다.

그분은 유능하고 정통한 일꾼이 되기에는 너무 무관심하고 게으른 자를 불쾌히 여기신다.

주님께서 우리에게 온 마음을 다하고, 목숨을 다하고, 정성을 다하고, 뜻을 다하여 그분을 사랑하라고

말씀하신다.

 

이 명령은 온 마음을 다하여 우리의 창조주를 알고, 그분을 사랑하기 위하여

우리의 지능을 최고도로 계발할 책임을 우리에게 부과한다.

 

 

사람은 일하는 데서 행복을 발견함—

아담은 하늘의 축소판인 에덴에 있는 하나님의 작품들 가운데서 명상을 위한 주제를 발견했다.

하나님께서는 그분의 영광스러운 작품들을 단순히 명상하도록 사람을 만들지 않으셨다.

그분께서는 그에게 명상할 마음과 심령뿐 아니라 일할 손을 주셨다.

 

만일 사람의 행복이 무위(無爲)의 생애를 사는 데 있다면,

창조주께서는 아담에게 지정된 일을 주지 않으셨을 것이다.

 

사람은 명상하는 데서뿐 아니라 일하는 데서도 행복을 발견해야 한다.

 

 

Obligation to Develop Intellect to Its Maximum

 

 

God requires the training of the mental faculties. He designs that His servants shall possess more intelligence and clearer discernment than the worldling, and He is displeased with those who are too careless or too indolent to become efficient, well-informed workers. The Lord bids us love Him with all the heart and with all the soul and with all the strength and with all the mind. This lays upon us the obligation of developing the intellect to its fullest capacity, that with all the mind we may know and love our Creator.--COL 333 (1900).

Man Finds Happiness in Labor—Adam had themes for contemplation in the works of God in Eden, which was heaven in miniature. God did not form man merely to contemplate His glorious works; therefore, He gave him hands for labor as well as a mind and heart for contemplation. If the happiness of man consisted in doing nothing, the Creator would not have given Adam his appointed work. Man was to find happiness in labor as well as in meditation.--RH, Feb 24, 1874.
