온유와 겸손은 성공과 승리의 조건들이다

 

 

때때로 우리 주님은 교회의 위기와, 원수가 교회에 입힌 손해를 잊으신 것처럼 보일지 모른다.

그러나 주님께서는 잊지 않으셨다.

이 세상에서 하나님의 마음에 당신의 교회처럼 그렇게 사랑스러운 것은 아무것도 없다.

 

세속적 정책이 교회의 역사를 더럽히는 것은 하나님의 뜻이 아니다.

하나님께서는 당신의 백성을 사단의 유혹에 굴복 당하도록 버려두지 않으신다.

하나님께서는 당신을 잘못 전하는 자들을 벌하시나 성실히 회개하는 모든 사람들에게 은혜를 나타내실 것이다. 그리스도인의 품성을 계발하기 위하여 당신께 힘을 구하는 사람들에게

하나님께서는 필요한 모든 도움을 주실 것이다.

 

말세에 하나님의 백성들은 세상에서 행해지는 가증한 일들로 인하여 탄식하고 통곡할 것이다.

하나님의 백성은 하나님의 율법을 짓밟는 위험을 악인들에게 눈물로써 경고하고

말할 수 없는 슬픔으로 여호와 앞에 회개함으로 스스로 겸비할 것이다.

악인들은 그들의 슬퍼함을 조소하고 그들의 엄숙한 호소를 조롱할 것이다.

그러나 하나님의 백성의 고민과 겸비는

죄의 결과로 잃어버렸던 품성의 힘과 고상함을 다시 얻고 있다는 뚜렷한 증거이다.

그들이 그리스도께 더욱 가까이 가고, 그들의 눈이 당신의 완전한 순결함에 고착되어 있는 까닭에

그들은 그처럼 분명하게 죄가 극악함을 분별하는 것이다.

온유와 겸손은 성공과 승리의 조건들이다.

영광의 면류관은 십자가 아래서 머리 숙이는 사람들을 기다리고 있다.

 

충실하게 기도하는 하나님의 사람들은 말하자면 하나님께 둘러싸여 있는 것이다.

그들은 자신들이 얼마나 안전하게 보호되고 있는지 스스로는 알지 못한다.

사단에게 충동을 받은 이 세상 통치자들은 그들을 멸하려고 찾고 있다.

그러나 만일 하나님의 자녀들의 눈이 도단에서 엘리사의 종의 눈이 열렸던 것처럼 열릴 수 있었더면

그들은 저희를 둘러 진치고 어둠의 군대를 저지하고 있는 하나님의 천사들을 보았을 것이다.

 

 

Meekness and Lowliness are the Conditions of Success and Victory

 

 

At times the Lord may seem to have forgotten the perils of His church and the injury done her by her enemies. But God has not forgotten. Nothing in this world is so dear to the heart of God as His church. It is not His will that worldly policy shall corrupt her record. He does not leave His people to be overcome by Satan's temptations. He will punish those who misrepresent Him, but He will be gracious to all who sincerely repent. To those who call upon Him for strength for the development of Christian character, He will give all needed help.

In the time of the end the people of God will sigh and cry for the abominations done in the land. With tears they will warn the wicked of their danger in trampling upon the divine law, and with unutterable sorrow they will humble themselves before the Lord in penitence. The wicked will mock their sorrow and ridicule their solemn appeals. But the anguish and humiliation of God's people is unmistakable evidence that they are regaining the strength and nobility of character lost in consequence of sin. It is because they are drawing nearer to Christ, because their eyes are fixed on His perfect purity, that they discern so clearly the exceeding sinfulness of sin. Meekness and lowliness are the conditions of success and victory. A crown of glory awaits those who bow at the foot of the cross.

God's faithful, praying ones are, as it were, shut in with Him. They themselves know not how securely they are shielded. Urged on by Satan, the rulers of this world are seeking to destroy them; but could the eyes of God's children be opened as were the eyes of Elisha's servant at Dothan, they would see angels of God encamped about them, holding in check the hosts of darkness. – Prophets and Kings, 590.
