하나님의 말씀에서 얻는 지식

성경의 진리를 받아들일 때, 정신과 심령이 고상해질 것이다.

하나님의 말씀을 마땅히 분별해야 할 만큼 올바르게 분별하기만 하면,

노소를 막론하고 유혹을 저항할 수 있는 강직한 마음, 곧 힘 있는 원칙을 소유하게 될 것이다.

 

사람들에게 성경의 귀중한 교훈들을 가르치고 기록하게 하라.

생각과 재능과 예민한 두뇌의 힘을 하나님의 사상을 연구하는데 바치도록 하라.

사람의 생각에서 나온 철학을 연구하지 말고, 진리이신 하나님의 철학을 연구하라.

어떤 다른 학문도 이것과 가치를 비교할 수 없다.

 

세속적 마음을 가진 사람은 하나님의 말씀을 명상하는데서 기쁨을 발견하지 못한다.

그러나 성령으로 새로와진 마음을 가진 사람에게는 성경에서 거룩한 미와 하늘의 빛이 비쳐 온다.

세속적 마음을 가진 사람에게는 거칠은 광야와 같은 것도

영적 마음을 가진 사람에게는 생명의 샘이 흐르는 땅이 된다.

 

하나님의 말씀에 계시된 하나님을 아는 지식이 우리의 자녀들에게 주어져야 한다.

그들의 이성(異性)의 눈이 떠지는 가장 초기에서부터 그들은 예수님의 이름과 생애를 잘 알아야 한다.

그들은 최초의 교훈으로서 하나님이 그들의 아버지시라는 진리를 배워야 한다.

그들의 최초의 훈련은 사랑으로 순종하는 것이 되어야 한다.

하나님의 말씀을 경건하고 친절하게 읽어 주되,

그들의 이해력에 적합하고 그들의 흥미를 일으켜 주기에 알맞은 부분들을 되풀이해서 읽어 주라.

그리고 무엇보다 그리스도 안에 나타난 그분의 사랑과 그 위대한 교훈을 그들에게 가르쳐 주라.

 

The Knowledge Received Through God's Word

 

The truths of the Bible, received, will uplift mind and soul. If the word of God were appreciated as it should be, both young and old would possess an inward rectitude, a strength of principle, that would enable them to resist temptation.

Let men teach and write the precious things of the Holy Scriptures. Let the thought, the aptitude, the keen exercise of brain power, be given to the study of the thoughts of God. Study not the philosophy of man's conjectures, but study the philosophy of Him who is truth. No other literature can compare with this in value.

The mind that is earthly finds no pleasure in contemplating the word of God; but for the mind renewed by the Holy Spirit, divine beauty and celestial light shine from the sacred page. That which to the earthly mind was a desolate wilderness, to the spiritual mind becomes a land of living streams.

The knowledge of God as revealed in His word is the knowledge to be given to our children. From the earliest dawn of reason they should be made familiar with the name and the life of Jesus. Their first lessons should teach them that God is their Father. Their first training should be that of loving obedience. Reverently and tenderly let the word of God be read and repeated to them in portions suited to their comprehension and adapted to awaken their interest. And, above all, let them learn of His love revealed in Christ, and its great lesson. – Ministry of Healing, 459-60.
