앞으로 전진하라

 

그리스도인 생애는 위험으로 둘려 있고 의무는 실행하기 매우 어려운 듯이 보이는 때가 있다.

앞에 놓인 절박한 멸망과, 뒤에 있는 결박과 죽음이 상상된다.

그러나, 모든 낙담을 초월하여 하나님의 음성은 분명하게 “앞으로 전진하라”고 말한다.

비록 우리의 눈이 어둠을 뚫지 못하고, 우리의 발에 차가운 물결을 느낄지라도,

결과는 하늘에 맡기고 우리는 이 명령에 순종해야 한다.

 

하나님의 음성은 당신의 충성스런 자들에게 “앞으로 전진하라”고 명하며,

그들의 믿음을 자주 최대한 시험한다.

 

그러나, 그들이 모든 불확실한 그림자가 마음에서 사라질 때까지, 또한 실패나 패배의 위험이 제거될 때까지 순종하기를 지체한다면, 그들은 결코 전진할 수 없을 것이다.

그들 앞에 모든 것이 분명하고 명백해질 때까지는 하나님의 뜻에 굴복하고 그분의 약속을 믿는 것이 불가능하다고 생각하는 자들은 결코 굴복하지 못할 것이다.

 

믿음은 지적(知的)확인이 아니고 “바라는 것들의 실상이요 보지 못하는 것들의 증거”(히 11:1)이다.

하나님의 명령에 순종하는 것만이 그분의 은총을 입는 유일한 길이다.

“앞으로 전진하라”는 말은 그리스도인들의 표어가 되어야 한다.

 

 

Go Forward

 

 

There are times when the Christian life seems beset by dangers, and duty seems hard to perform. The imagination pictures impending ruin before, and bondage or death behind. Yet the voice of God speaks clearly above all discouragements: “Go forward.” We should obey this command, let the result be what it may, even though our eyes cannot penetrate the darkness and though we feel the cold waves about our feet.

The voice of the Lord bidding His faithful ones “go forward” frequently tries their faith to the uttermost. But if they should defer obedience till every shadow of uncertainty was removed from their understanding, and there remained no risk of failure or defeat, they would never move on at all. Those who think it impossible for them to yield to the will of God and have faith in His promises until all is made clear and plain before them, will never yield at all. Faith is not certainty of knowledge; it “is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1. To obey the commandments of God is the only way to obtain His favor. “Go forward” should be the Christian’s watchword. - 1 Testimony, 450-452.
