방어가 없는 성채

 

방어가 없는 성채

바라봄으로써 우리는 변화된다.

 

창조주의 형상대로 만들어졌지만

사람은 그가 한때 미워했던 죄가 그에게 유쾌한 것이 되도록 자신의 마음을 길들일 수 있다.

깨어 기도하기를 그칠 때, 그는 성채인 마음을 지키기를 그치며 죄와 죄악에 참여하게 된다.

마음은 비천하게 된다.

도덕적 및 지성적 능력들을 노예로 만들고 추잡한 정욕에 굴복시키도록 가르침을 받고 있는 동안은

마음을 타락에서 건져내기가 불가능하다.

육적 마음에 대하여 끊임없이 싸워야 한다.

 

우리는 하나님의 은혜로 세밀하게 단련되는 도움을 받아야 하며,

그것은 마음을 위로 끌어주고,

순결하고 거룩한 것들을 명상하는 습관을 길러 줄 것이다.

 

The Unguarded Citadel

 

By beholding we become changed. Though formed in the image of his Maker, man can so educate his mind that sin which he once loathed will become pleasant to him. As he ceases to watch and pray, he ceases to guard the citadel, the heart, and engages in sin and crime. The mind is debased, and it is impossible to elevate it from corruption while it is being educated to enslave the moral and intellectual powers and bring them in subjection to grosser passions. Constant war against the carnal mind must be maintained; and we must be aided by the refining influence of the grace of God, which will attract the mind upward and habituate it to meditate upon pure and holy things.-Testimonies for the Church 2:479 (1870).
