엄격한 정신적·도덕적 훈련을 받아야 함

 

 

하나님을 위하여 어떤 사업을 수행하도록 택하심을 입은 모든 사람들에게도 인간적 결점이 있다.

그러나 그들은 판에 박은 듯한 습관과 품성에 머물러 있는 것에 만족하지 않았다.

그들은 하나님께로부터 지혜를 얻고 그분을 위해 일하는 법을 배우기를 열렬히 갈망하였다.

사도는 “너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든

모든 사람에게 후히 주시고 꾸짖지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하라 그리하면 주시리라”고 말하였다.

 

그러나 하나님께서는 사람들이 어둠에 머물러 있으면서도 그것을 만족히 여기고 있는 한

그들에게 거룩한 빛을 나누어 주지 않으실 것이다.

하나님의 도움을 받기 위하여 사람은 자기의 연약함과 부족함을 깨달아야 하고,

자기 자신 속에 이룩될 큰 변화에 마음을 쏟아야 한다.

열렬하고 꾸준한 기도와 노력으로 분기해야 한다.

그릇된 습관과 행습은 떨쳐 버려야 한다.

이 같은 잘못들을 시정하고 바른 원칙을 따라 살고자 하는 결정적인 노력만이 승리를 가져다 줄 수 있다.

 

하나님께서 그들 스스로 하도록 능력을 주셨는데도 불구하고,

그들은하나님께서 모든 것을 해 주시기를 기다리는 까닭에

그들이 마땅히 차지할 수 있는 지위를 얻지 못하는 사람들이 많이 있다.

유용하게 쓰일 수 있는 사람들은 모두 엄격한 정신적·도덕적 훈련을 받아야 한다.

그렇게 할 때 하나님께서는 당신의 능력을 그들의 노력과 결합시키심으로 그들을 도우실 것이다.

Must be Trained by the Severest Mental and Moral Discipline

 

In all who have been chosen to accomplish a work for God the human element is seen. Yet they have not been men of stereotyped habits and character, who were satisfied to remain in that condition. They earnestly desired to obtain wisdom from God and to learn to work for Him. Says the apostle, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." James 1:5. But God will not impart to men divine light while they are content to remain in darkness.

In order to receive God's help, man must realize his weakness and deficiency; he must apply his own mind to the great change to be wrought in himself; he must be aroused to earnest and persevering prayer and effort. Wrong habits and customs must be shaken off; and it is only by determined endeavor to correct these errors and to conform to right principles that the victory can be gained.

Many never attain to the position that they might occupy, because they wait for God to do for them that which He has given them power to do for themselves. All who are fitted for usefulness must be trained by the severest mental and moral discipline, and God will assist them by uniting divine power with human effort.   - Patriarchs and Prophets, 250.
