남녀들로 하여금 요리하는 법을 배우도록 하라

건강 개혁을 채택하는 많은 사람들이 자신들에게는 건강 개혁이 맞지 않는다고 불평한다.

 

그러나 내가 그들의 식탁에 앉아 본 후에야 나는 잘못이 건강 개혁에 있는 것이 아니라

 

건강에 좋지 않게 요리된 음식에 있다는 결론을 내리게 되었다.

 

하나님께서 지성을 주신 남녀들에게 나는 호소하노니 요리하는 방법을 배우라.

 

내가 “남자들”이라고 말한 것은 잘못한 것이 아니다.

 

왜냐하면 여자들은 물론 남자들도 단순하고 건강에 좋은 음식의 요리법을 이해할 필요가 있기 때문이다.

 

그들은 이러한 점을 전혀 알지 못하는 가정에 며칠 혹은 몇 주일간 머물기를 요구받을는지도 모른다.

 

그 때에 만일 그들이 지식을 가지고 있으면 선한 목적에 그 지식을 사용할 수 있다.

개인의 재능 개발을 격려함—

 

어느 곳에서나 남녀들이 저희 지방의 천연 소산물로 건강에 좋은 음식물을 준비함으로 격려를 받아

 

저희의 재간들을 계발시키는 것이 주님의 계획이다.

 

만일 그들이 그분의 영의 인도 아래 자신들의 기술과 창의력을 활용하면서 하나님을 바라본다면

 

그들은 천연 소산물로 건강적인 음식물을 요리하는 방법을 배울 것이다.

 

이리하여 그들은 가난한 사람들에게 고기를 대치할 음식들을 어떻게 스스로 준비할지 가르칠 수 있을 것이다. 이와 같이 하여 도움을 받은 사람들은 또 다른 사람들을 가르칠 수 있다.

 

머지않아서 그러한 일이 헌신적인 열성과 힘으로 이루어질 것이다.

 

그러한 일이 이전에 이루어졌더라면 오늘날 진리 가운데 더욱 많은 사람들이 있을 것이며,

 

가르칠 수 있는 사람들이 더욱 많을 것이다.

 

우리의 의무가 무엇인지 배우자. 그런 다음 그것을 실행하자.

 

우리는 하나님께서 우리에게 맡기신 일을 다른 사람들이 하도록 기다리는

 

의존적이며 무력한 사람이 되어서는 안 된다.

Let Men and Women Learn to Cook

Many who adopt the health reform complain that it does not agree with them; but after sitting at their tables I come to the conclusion that it is not the health reform that is at fault, but the poorly prepared food. I appeal to men and women to whom God has given intelligence: Learn how to cook. I make no mistake when I say “men,” for they, as well as women, need to understand the simple, healthful preparation of food. Their business often takes them where they cannot obtain wholesome food. They may be called to remain days and even weeks in families that are entirely ignorant in this respect. Then, if they have the knowledge, they can use it to good purpose.—[Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, 56, 57] Counsels on Health, 155, 1890

Encourage Development of Individual Talent—It is the Lord’s design that in every place men and women shall be encouraged to develop their talents by preparing healthful foods from the natural products of their own section of the country. If they look to God, exercising their skill and ingenuity under the guidance of His Spirit, they will learn how to prepare natural products into healthful foods. Thus they will be able to teach the poor how to provide themselves with foods that will take the place of flesh meat. Those thus helped can in turn instruct others. Such a work will yet be done with consecrated zeal and energy. If it had been done before, there would today be many more people in the truth, and many more who could give instruction. Let us learn what our duty is, and then do it. We are not to be dependent and helpless, waiting for others to do the work that God has committed to us.—Testimonies for the Church 7:133, 1902
