악습의 희생이 된 사람들은 스스로 노력할 필요를 깨달아야 한다.

 

다른 사람들이 그들을 건져내기 위하여 가장 열렬한 노력을 기울이고,

하나님의 은혜가 값없이 주어지고, 그리스도께서 탄원하시고, 그분의 천사들이 봉사할 것이다.

그러나 그들 스스로 싸우고자 일어나지 않으면 모든 일이 허사가 될 것이다.…

 

많은 사람은 무서운 유혹의 힘, 곧 방종으로 빠져 들어가는 욕망의 힘을 깨닫고서

절망 중에 "나는 악을 저항할 수 없다."라고 부르짖는다.

 

그에게 악을 저항할 수 있다는 것과 반드시 저항해야 한다는 것을 말해 주라.

그는 거듭거듭 정복당하였을지도 모른다.

그러나 언제나 그렇게 될 필요는 없다.

 

그는 죄악 생활이 습관에 지배된 나머지 도덕적 능력이 약하다.

그의 약속과 결심은 마치 썩은 새끼줄과 같다.

 

그는 약속을 깨뜨리고 서약을 어긴 것을 알므로 자신의 성실성에 대한 확신이 약해지고,

하나님께서 자기를 받아 주시거나 그와 함께 역사하실 수 없다고 생각한다.

 

그러나 그는 절망할 필요가 없다.

🌻Aroma of Life | Individual Efforts Necessary🌻

 

The victims of evil habit must be aroused to the necessity of making an effort for themselves.

 

Others may put forth the most earnest endeavor to uplift them, the grace of God may be freely offered, Christ may entreat, His angels may minister; but all will be in vain unless they themselves are roused to fight the battle in their own behalf....

 

Feeling the terrible power of temptation, the drawing of desire that leads to indulgence, many a man cries in despair, “I cannot resist evil.”

 

Tell him that he can, that he must, resist. He may have been overcome again and again, but it need not be always thus.

 

He is weak in moral power, controlled by the habits of a life of sin. His promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand.

 

The knowledge of his broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens his confidence in his own sincerity and causes him to feel that God cannot accept him or work with his efforts.

 

But he need not despair.
