사랑은 행동의 원칙

하늘의 영원한 사랑의 원칙이 심령을 가득 채울 때, 그것은 다른 사람들에게로 흘러 넘칠 것이다. …

왜냐하면 사랑은 행동의 원칙이며, 품성을 변화시키며, 충동을 제어하고,

격정을 통제하며, 적의를 진압시키고, 애정을 향상시키고 고상하게 하기 때문이다....

자아가 그리스도 안에서 가려질 때, 참된 사랑은 저절로 솟아 나온다.

그것은 감정이나 충동이 아니라 성화된 의지의 결정이다.

그것은 느낌에 있는 것이 아니라 심령과 영혼과 품성 전체의 변화,

즉 자아에 대해서는 죽고 하나님께 대해서는 사는 것에 있다. 

우리의 주인이시오 구세주께서는 당신에게 우리 자신은 드리라고 요청하신다.

그분께서 요구하시는 것을 자아를 하나님께 넘겨 드리고,

우리 자신을 그분께서 적합하다고 보시는 대로 사용되도록 그분께 드리는 것이다. 

우리가 이런 순복하는 지점에 이르지 않는 한,

우리는 어느 곳에서도 행복하게, 유용하게 혹은 성공적으로 일하지 못할 것이다.

Love, the Principle of Action

When the heavenly principle of eternal love fills the heart, it will flow out to others, ... because love is the principle of action, and modifies the character, governs the impulses, controls the passions, subdues enmity, and elevates and ennobles the affections....

When self is submerged in Christ, true love springs forth spontaneously. It is not an emotion or an impulse but a decision of a sanctified will. It consists not in feeling but in the transformation of the whole heart, soul, and character, which is dead to self and alive unto God. 

Our Lord and Saviour asks us to give ourselves to Him. Surrendering self to God is all He requires, giving ourselves to Him to be employed as He sees fit.

Until we come to this point of surrender, we shall not work happily, usefully, or successfully anywhere.
