자아를 버려야 할 필요성

사람에게 있는 큰 위험은 자기에게 기만당하고 자기 만족에 도취되어

그의 능력의 근원되시는 하나님께로부터 떠나는 것이다.

우리의 육신적 성향은 하나님의 성령으로 교정되지 않으면, 그 속에 도덕적 죽음의 씨앗을 간직하게 된다.

우리가 하나님과 생명적인 관계를 맺지 않으면,

우리는 방종과 자기 본위의 마음과 죄의 유혹 등의 부정한 세력들을 저항할 수 없다.

우리는 그리스도께 도움을 받기 위하여 우리의 필요를 깨달아야 한다.

우리는 우리 자신을 올바르게 알아야 한다.

그리스도께서는 자기 자신이 죄인이라는 사실을 아는 자만을 구원하실 수 있다.

우리가 전혀 속절없이 우리의 상태를 깨닫고 자신을 의지하는 모든 마음을 버릴 때에만,

우리는 하나님의 능력을 붙잡게 될 것이다....

우리의 모든 선행은 우리 자신의 외부에서 오는 힘에 의하여 이루어진다.

그러므로 마음으로 끊임없이 하나님을 찾아가고,

꾸준하고 열렬하게 죄를 고백하고,

그분 앞에 심령을 겸비하게 할 필요가 있다.

The Need of Self-Renunciation

Man’s great danger is in being self-deceived, indulging self-sufficiency, and thus separating from God, the source of his strength. Our natural tendencies, unless corrected by the Holy Spirit of God, have in them the seeds of moral death.

Unless we become vitally connected with God, we cannot resist the unhallowed effects of self-indulgence, self-love, and temptation to sin.

 In order to receive help from Christ, we must realize our need. We must have a true knowledge of ourselves. It is only he who knows himself to be a sinner that Christ can save. only as we see our utter helplessness and renounce all self-trust, shall we lay hold on divine power....

All our good works are dependent on a power outside of ourselves; therefore there needs to be a continual reaching out of the heart after God, a constant, earnest confession of sin and humbling of the soul before Him.
