그리스도인 신앙의 승리

구주께서는 자신의 모본으로

당신을 따르는 사람들이 세상에 있으면서도 세상에 속하지 않을 수 있음을 보여주셨다.

그분은 세상의 기만적 향락에 동참하고 그 풍속에 좌우되고 그 행습들을 따르려고 오신 것이 아니라

당신의 아버지의 뜻을 행하고 잃어버린 자를 찾아 구원하시려고 오셨다. 

이러한 목적을 염두에 두면, 그리스도인은 어떠한 환경 가운데서도 물들지 않고 설 수 있다.

그의 지위나 환경이 어떠하든지 그는 의무를 충실히 수행함으로 참된 신앙의 능력을 나타낼 것이다.

그리스도인 품성이 계발되는 것은 시련이 없을 때가 아니라 시련 가운데 있을 때이다.

거절과 반대를 당할 때

그리스도를 따르는 사람들은 더욱 경성하고, 전능하신 조력자께 더욱 열렬히 기도하게 된다.

하나님의 은혜를 힘입어 견딘 혹독한 시련은

인내와 경계와 불요불굴함과 하나님께 대한 깊고도 항구적인 신뢰심을 계발시킨다. 

그리스도를 따르는 사람들이 고통을 당하나 강하게 되고, 복종하지만 그로 인해 정복하고, 종일토록 죽임을 당하나 살고, 십자가를 지지만 영광의 면류관을 얻을 수 있게 하는 것, 바로 이것이 그리스도인 신앙의 승리이다.

The Triumph of the Christian Faith

By His own example the Saviour has shown that His followers can be in the world and yet not of the world. He came not to partake of its delusive pleasures, to be swayed by its customs, and to follow its practices, but to do His Father’s will, to seek and save the lost. 

With this object before him the Christian may stand uncontaminated in any surroundings. Whatever his station or circumstances, exalted or humble, he will manifest the power of true religion in the faithful performance of duty. 

Not in freedom from trial, but in the midst of it, is Christian character developed. Exposure to rebuffs and opposition leads the follower of Christ to greater watchfulness and more earnest prayer to the mighty Helper. Severe trial endured by the grace of God develops patience, vigilance, fortitude, and a deep and abiding trust in God. 

It is the triumph of the Christian faith that it enables its followers to suffer and be strong; to submit, and thus to conquer; to be killed all the day long, and yet to live; to bear the cross, and thus to win the crown of glory.
