더욱 광범한 계획이 필요함

하나님은 그의 귀한 말씀이 경고와 격려의 기별과 함께

어둠 속에 있는 이들과 우리의 믿음에 대하여 듣지 못한 이들에게 이르도록 계획하신다.

그것은 모든 사람들에게 전달됨으로, 그들이 듣든지 아니 듣든지 하나의 증거가 될 것이다. 

기별을 듣는 자들을 감동시켜 개종시키는 것이 그대의 책임인 것처럼 느끼지 말라.

하나님의 능력만이 사람들의 심령을 부드럽게 할 수가 있다.

그대는 모든 사람들이 원하기만 한다면 진리를 받아들일 기회를 가질 수 있도록

생명의 말씀을 제시하여야 한다.

그들이 만일 하늘에서 주신 진리에서 돌아선다면 정죄를 면치 못할 것이다.

우리는 진리를 땅의 사방 구석에 숨겨 둘 것이 아니다. 그것을 알려야 한다.

그것을 우리의 대도시들에 비추어야 한다.

그리스도께서 전도하실 때, 사방에서 온 사람들을 많이 만날 수 있는 호숫가와 큰길에 위치를 잡으셨다. 

그는 참 빛을 주셨고 복음의 씨앗을 심고 계셨으며, 진리를 오류에서 갈라 내사

본래의 단순함과 명료함을 따라 제시하심으로 사람들로 그것을 깨닫게 하셨다.

세상의 구주께서는 많은 청중을 가졌으나 추종자들은 많지 않았다. 홍

수 전에 노아는 백 이십 년간 전도하였으나 이 귀중한 은혜의 기간을 감사한 이는 적었다. 

노아와 그의 가족을 제외하고서는, 믿는 자로 간주되어 방주에 들어간 이는 한 사람도 없었다.

모든 지상 거민들 중에서 오직 여덟 사람만 기별을 받아들였으나, 그 기별이 세상을 정죄하였던 것이다. 

그들이 믿도록 하기 위하여 빛이 주어졌고, 그 빛을 거절했을때 멸망이 정해졌다.

우리가 세상에 전하는 기별은 그것을 받아들이는 이들에게는 생명에서 생명에 이르는 향기가 될 것이요,

거절하는 자들에게는 정죄의 쓴맛이 될 것이다.

하나님의 사자가, 모인 사람들 중 하나에게 이르시기를,

“이 시대를 위한 그대의 사업 개념은 너무나 제한되었다.

그대의 빛이 조그만 범위에 국한되어서는 안 되고, 말 아래나 침상 아래 감추어 두어서도 안 된다.

그것을 등경 위에 둠으로 하나님의 집 곧 온 세상에 사는 모든 사람들에게 비치도록 하라.

그대는 지금 가진 것보다 더한층 넓은 견해를 지녀야 한다”라고 말씀하셨다.

Broader Plans Necessary

God designs that His precious word, with its messages of warning and encouragement, shall come to those who are in darkness and are ignorant of our faith. It is to be given to all, and will be to them a witness, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear. 

Do not feel that the responsibility rests upon you to convict and convert the hearers. The power of God alone can soften the hearts of the people. You are to hold forth the word of life, that all may have an opportunity of receiving the truth if they will. If they turn from the truth of heavenly origin, it will be their condemnation.

We must not hide the truth in the corners of the earth. It must be made known; it must shine in our large cities. Christ in His labors took His position by the lakeside and in the great thoroughfares of travel where He could meet people from all parts of the world. 

He was giving the true light; He was sowing the gospel seed; He was rescuing truth from its companionship with error, and presenting it in its original simplicity and clearness, so that men could comprehend it.

The world’s Redeemer had many hearers, but few followers. Noah preached one hundred and twenty years to the people before the Flood, and yet there were few who appreciated this precious, probationary time. 

Save Noah and his family, not one was numbered with the believers and entered into the ark. Of all the inhabitants of the earth, only eight souls received the message; but that message condemned the world. 

The light was given in order that they might believe; their rejection of the light proved their ruin. Our message to the world will be a savor of life unto life to all who accept it, and of condemnation to all who reject it.

The Messenger turned to one present and said: “Your ideas of the work for this time are altogether too limited. Your light must not be confined to a small compass, put under a bushel, or under a bed; it must be placed on a candlestick, that it may give light to all that are in God’s house—the world. You must take broader views of the work than you have taken.”
