열렬하고 끈질긴 기도는 하나님의 도움을 가져다 줄 것임

우리가 무거운 짐에 눌릴 때에,

시험의 압박을 받을 때에, 선천적인 마음의 느낌과 갈망이 지배권을 얻고자 다툴 때에,

우리는 그리스도의 이름으로 하늘 아버지께 열렬하고 끈질긴 기도를 드려야 한다.

그러면 이런 기도는 예수님을 우리에게 모셔다 주어 도움을 베푸시도록 할 것이며

그렇게 하여 그분의 전능하시고 효험있는 이름을 통하여 우리는 승리를 얻고

우리 편에서 사단을 쫓아낼 수 있다.

그러나 우리가 우리 자신을 위하여 미약한 노력만 하면서 안전하다고 자위해서는 안 된다.

우리의 위험은 세상의 반대로부터 발생하는 것이 아니라

세상과 벗이 된 우리 존재의 연약성에서

그리고 하나님이나 그분의 진리를 사랑하지 않는 자들의 모본을 모방하는 데서 발견된다.

진리를 위하여 세상적인 것들을 상실하는 일, 원칙에 충성함으로써 큰 불편을 감수하는 일은

우리를 신앙과 희망을 잃어버릴 위험에 처하게 만들지 않지만

사단의 시험들에 의해 기만을 당하고 정복당함으로써 잃어버려질 위험에 처해 있다.

시련들은, 우리가 불평 없이 그것들을 받아들이고 견디면 우리의 선을 위하여 작용할 것이며

세상에 대한 사랑을 우리에게서 끊어버리는 경향이 있을 것이며

하나님을 더욱 온전히 의뢰하도록 이끌 것이다.

Fervent, Importunate Prayer Will Bring Divine Help

When we are burdened, when we are pressed with temptation, when the feelings and desires of the natural heart are contending for the victory, we should offer up fervent, importunate prayer to our heavenly Father in the name of Christ;
and this will bring Jesus to our help, so that, through His all-powerful and efficacious name, we may gain the victory and banish Satan from our side.

But we should not flatter ourselves that we are safe while we make but feeble efforts in our own behalf....

Our danger does not arise from the opposition of the world, but it is found in the liability of our being in friendship with the world, and imitating the example of those who love not God or His truth.

The loss of earthly things for the truth’s sake, the suffering of great inconvenience for loyalty to principle, does not place us in danger of losing our faith and hope, but we are in danger of suffering loss because of being deceived and overcome by the temptations of Satan.

Trials will work for our good if we receive and bear them without murmuring, and will tend to separate us from the love of the world, and will lead us to trust more fully in God.
