그분의 은혜 안에서 강건하라

“내 아들아 그러므로 네가 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 은혜 속에서 강하고

또 네가 많은 증인 앞에서 내게 들은 바를 충성된 사람들에게 부탁하라

저희가 또 다른 사람들을 가르칠 수 있으리라”(딤후 2:1~2).

바울이 디모데에게 한 말 속에 담긴 교훈은 오늘날 우리에게도 중요하기로는 첫손가락에 꼽히는 것들이다. 바울은 자신의 지혜 안에서 “강건하라”고 했던가? 아니다.

“그리스도 예수 안에 있는 은혜” 속에서 강건하라고 했다.

그리스도의 제자가 되고자 하는 이들은 자신의 능력을 의지하지 않고, 자신을 신뢰할 마음도 품지 않는다.

종교적 노력이 위축되거나 책임을 회피하지도 않으며 하나님의 목적에 무능력한 채 있지도 말아야 한다.

그는 확실하고 안전한 근원에서 강건함을 끌어낼 수 있으니

거룩한 능력을 소유할 수 있는 이들이 실족할 리가 없다.

“그리스도 예수 안에 있는 은혜 속에서 강하”라. 이는 우리에게 주는 권고다.

만약, 그리스도인이 자신의 힘없고 무능력함을 깨닫고 하나님을 의지하면,

어떤 절박한 때에라도 풍성한 그리스도의 은혜를 느끼게 될 것이다.

Be Strong in His Grace

 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.2 Timothy 2:1, 2.

 The lessons contained in the words of Paul to Timothy are of the greatest importance to us today. He charges him to “be strong”—in his own wisdom? No, but “in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.”

He who would be a follower of Christ is not to rely upon his own capabilities, or to feel confident in himself. Neither is to be dwarfed in his religious efforts, to shun responsibilities, and remain inefficient in the cause of God. He is to draw strength from a sure and safe source, that never fails those who would have divine power.

The exhortation to us is, “Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” If the Christian feels his weakness, his inability, by putting his trust in God, he will find the grace of Christ sufficient for every emergency.
