“애통하는 자는 복이 있나니 저희가 위로를 받을 것임이요”

(마태복음 5장 4절)

구주의 말씀에는 재난이나 사별의 아픔을 가지고 있는 사람들을 위한 위로의 기별도 있다.

우리의 슬픔은 아무런 근거 없이 생기는 것이 아니다.

하나님이 “인생으로 고생하며 근심하게 하심이 본심이 아니시”다(예레미야애가 3장 33절).

그분께서 시련과 환난을 허락하시는 것은

“우리의 유익을 위하여 그의 거룩하심에 참예케 하시”기 위함이다. (히브리서 12장 10절)

감당하기 심히 어렵고 가혹하게 보이는 시련이라도 일단 믿음으로 받아들이면 축복임이 판명될 것이다.

세상의 쾌락을 앗아가는 혹독한 재난이 오히려 우리의 눈을 하늘로 향하게 하는 수단이 될 것이다.

슬픔을 당하여 예수님 안에서 위로를 구하는 일이 없었더라면 결코 그분을 알지 못했을 사람들이 많이 있다.

인생의 고난은 우리 성품에서 불순물과 거친 것을 제거해 내는 하나님의 일꾼들이다.

이들에 의해 채석되어 깎이고, 끌로 새기어지고, 갈리고 다듬어지는 것은 고통스런 과정이다.

또, 회전 연마기(硏磨機) 속으로 들어가는 것도 힘든 일이다. 

그러나 그 속에 들어간 돌은 하늘 성전의 제자리를 채우는데 부족함이 없게 준비되어 나온다.

쓸모없는 물건을 위해서는 주께서 그처럼 신중하고 철저한 작업을 하지 않으신다.

오직 그분의 보석만이 궁전의 식양대로 다듬어진다.

주님께서는 당신을 의지하는 모든 사람을 위하여 일하실 것이다.

신실한 자는 귀중한 승리를 얻을 것이다.

가치 있는 교훈을 배우게 될 것이며, 고귀한 경험을 얻게 될 것이다.

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)

The Saviour’s words have a message of comfort to those also who are suffering affliction or bereavement. Our sorrows do not spring out of the ground. 

God “doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.” Lamentations 3:33. When He permits trials and afflictions, it is “for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.” Hebrews 12:10. 

If received in faith, the trial that seems so bitter and hard to bear will prove a blessing. The cruel blow that blights the joys of earth will be the means of turning our eyes to heaven. How many there are who would never have known Jesus had not sorrow led them to seek comfort in Him!

The trials of life are God’s workmen, to remove the impurities and roughness from our character. Their hewing, squaring, and chiseling, their burnishing and polishing, is a painful process; it is hard to be pressed down to the grinding wheel. 

But the stone is brought forth prepared to fill its place in the heavenly temple. Upon no useless material does the Master bestow such careful, thorough work. only His precious stones are polished after the similitude of a palace.

The Lord will work for all who put their trust in Him. Precious victories will be gained by the faithful. Precious lessons will be learned. Precious experiences will be realized.
