모든 사람이 결점보다 장점을 발견하고자 노력하도록 하자

근심과 걱정의 짐을 가진 생활이 신혼부부에게 닥쳐 오면

흔히 결혼생활에 주어지는 것으로 생각하는 로맨스는 사라진다.

남편과 아내는 그들이 전에 가졌던 교제에서 깨달을 수 없었던 피차의 성격을 알게 된다.

그런 때는 그들의 경험에서 가장 위험한 시기이다. 

그들의 미래의 전 생활의 행복과 유용성은 지금 그들이 바른 노선을 취하는데 달려있다.

때때로 그들은 피차에 생각지 않았던 약점과 결점을 발견하게 된다.

그러나 사랑으로 연합된 마음은 지금껏 알지 못했던 장점들도 또한 발견하게 될 것이다. 

모든 사람이 결점보다 장점을 발견하고자 노력하도록 하자.

흔히 우리 자신의 태도와 우리 주위에 있는 분위기가

우리로 하여금 다른 사람에게서 무엇을 발견할 것인지를 결정하게 한다.

사랑의 표현을 연약함의 증거처럼 생각하고 다른 사람들이 접근할 수 없는 태도를 취하는 사람들이 많다.

그와 같은 정신은 동정의 물결이 흘러오지 못하게 한다. 

사교적이고 관대한 마음의 충동이 억제될 때, 마음은 시들어지고, 황폐하고, 냉랭해진다.

우리는 그런 잘못을 범하지 않도록 주의해야 한다.

사랑은 표현되지 않으면 오래 존속하지 못한다.

그대들과 관련된 사람의 마음이 친절과 사랑의 결핍으로 굶주리지 않게 하라.

Let All Seek To Discover The Excellencies Rather Than The Defects

As life with its burden of perplexity and care meets the newly wedded pair, the romance with which imagination so often invests marriage disappears. Husband and wife learn each other’s character as it was impossible to learn it in their previous association. This is a most critical period in their experience. 

The happiness and usefulness of their whole future life depend upon their taking a right course now. Often they discern in each other unsuspected weaknesses and defects; but the hearts that love has united will discern excellencies also heretofore unknown. Let all seek to discover the excellencies rather than the defects. 

Often it is our own attitude, the atmosphere that surrounds ourselves, which determines what will be revealed to us in another. There are many who regard the ｅxpression of love as a weakness, and they maintain a reserve that repels others. This spirit checks the current of sympathy. 

As the social and generous impulses are repressed, they wither, and the heart becomes desolate and cold. We should beware of this error. Love cannot long exist without ｅxpression. Let not the heart of one connected with you starve for the want of kindness and sympathy.
